Ongoing Lineup Thread, 2017

I am optimistic for next year.  That whole lineup is back sans Smith and maybe even him or just go with Santander/Hayes.  Davis and Trumbo are bounce back candidates and potential in a huge way.  Save on Ubaldo, Hardy, Tillman, Miley and go with Bundy, Gausman, Castro.  Use the huge amount coming off the payroll for one beer good pitcher and one good pitcher. Whole bullpen is back and O'Day is bounce back candidate and Britton will be healthy.  Next year should be a good year.

So, I guess we're not going to see Santander start any more?

It's really a shame, I feel bad for the kid. I also feel like an idiot, I really thought he was going to start pretty much every game the rest of the way. Roch hinted at him being stashed on the bench, I actually laughed, 'Nah, even the Orioles aren't that dumb' I thought. I understand that we were 'forced' to bring him up, but then he has to play there are two parts to it, it's actually pretty simple. There is nothing good coming from him rotting on the bench, its actually kind of embarrassing to me. We should have just given him back and let him play in the Indians system and be given the best chance to succeed. In my opinion he is as good as Smith/Gentry right now let alone the experience he gains and continues to improve. It would be like if we brought up Hays, if we did, he HAS to play every single game it isn't even a decision. Sure, Santander hasn't faced much above High-A but that doesn't really matter. He crushed AA pitching in a SSS, a lot of good prospects skip AAA, he's ready he won't be overmatched. I don't see anything good coming from this, its all my opinion and they know more than me but I really disagree with what we are doing with this. I thought the pick was great, an outside the box smart move by the Orioles (surprisingly) but now they are disappointing me as much as I was impressed by grabbing Santander. Let's see what we have, do they really think Santander starting is going to hurt us in the playoff race (1.9% chance of the postseason by the way), I actually think he helps us! Starting Santander isn't giving up, bad move here, IMO.

What happened to Santander?

A guy who essentially has never played above A ball, and has been out most of the year with an injury.  Like most of our other rule 5 guys, he was never going to play much (and he has less AA or higher experience than any of them).
