Teams that could/should be interested in Britton

I'd sign up for the Ray's package in a second. Like the Houston one too

Seems like they are attributing more value to Britton than I've seen previously in this thread.

I like Houston's the best.  But I'd swap Whitley for Fisher.  I'd swap Perez for Martes to make it work if necessary.

TBH, any of these packages would be good gets. I'd put the Rays and Astros at the top like above, but Nats and LAD are right there too imo.

I'm not super excited about the Nats package, but that's because I don't like Fedde.

I'd go Astros, Rays, Dodgers, Nats - in that order. If Calhoun really isn't much of a defender, then there's no reason to even consider him - the O's have a surplus of guys that don't have positions as is.

I watched approximately 3 pitches from that highlight video and already like Martes more than Gausman.

I own Martes in a dynasty fantasy league, he is definitely a top prospect.  That said he has walked more guys this year than I thought humanly possible.

Yeah, I still love the guy but the 32 IP, 28 BB's in AAA is in the insane territory. Not sure what is up.

A good friend from work is a huge Dodger's fan and follows all their baseball writers and sites on twitter and invests many, many hours a day online with Dodger fans. He's OriolesHangout level of fanatic, for sure. He says a lot of Dodger fans (and seemingly Dodgers beat writers) believes that the Dodgers are going to give the Orioles Verdugo and Calhoun for Britton. He thinks it is a high price but he's convinced it is happening soon. He's probably crazy, but just passing along the impressions of a Dodger fan.

I don't like seeing 1B/OF for Britton or Brach.

Starting Pitching, Starting Pitching and more Starting Pitching!!!

If a team is going to give up a MLB ready pitcher with TOR upside I doubt you're getting more then one pitching prospect. Besides corner outfield is a position of need, especially if they trade smith. Nothing wrong with getting someone like Fisher or Bauers

Exactly. Teams aren't going to package all of their starting pitching prospects in the same deal. Unless maybe it's for Machado. For Brach or Britton, you try to get back one very solid arm, one very solid position player, and then flyer kick-in that could go either way, positionally.

I like Honeywell of the Rays, Fedde and Martes in that order. Martes may have the most devastating pitch with that CU but I don't like his delivery and the walks are absurd.

I'd like to see more of Alvarez w the Dodgers and think they may be willing to offer the most.

    • Of course the question asked in that article doesn't really directly answer what a lot of people are talking about. No one is saying we want to have a roster full of guys with experience. But some have suggested that have a team almost completely devoid of guys who have had postseason success, might lead to a bunch of young players who lack role models and mentors and leaders who can help them the first time they face the pressure of the postseason, which really is a totally different animal than the 162 game regular season grind. Anecdotally, there are many guys from the 1966 Orioles (which was a pretty young team) who talked about how Frank came in and "taught us how to win". Anecdotally, back in the days of the "Oriole way", players talked about coming into the organization and learning from veterans how to conduct yourself and how to play the game the right way.   It's hard to have that when you have a total gutting/rebuild of a franchise.    Anecdotally, in the book Astroball, which I read quite a few years ago but I think I remember this part, they talked about the front office coming to the realization that they needed to bring in some veteran leadership, and specifically targeting Carlos Beltran for that reason. Maybe the anecdotes are BS.   Maybe guys just make up narratives after something is successful.   But these ARE human beings, not just a sequence of stats and numbers.   It makes sense that, especially with young players who have never dealt with failure much, the pressure of the postseason could become an isssue and it might be nice to have some wise old heads to lean on. We have a core of young players who have basically been eagerly awaited by fans, told that they are the basis of the next winning franchise, and greeted with adulation.   They came into a team that had minimal veteran leadership and no postseason experience.   They are managed by a manager who has been a coach on winning teams but has never managed in the postseason before.   They have hitting coaches who were hired because of their ability to promote a hitting philosophy and modern coaching techniques that the organization believes are optimal, but who have never coached major league players before in any capacity. Our core players are trying to figure out how to be major leaguers with far less guidance than people who have been there, than perhaps any group of young players ever.   They may be getting excellent instruction and swing analysis and data that will help them hit better, but they have no one who has been through the mental and physical and emotional  tribulations of being a young player in the majors and triumphed, to serve as an example as they try to grown into superstars and champions. In previous seasons, before "liftoff", we brought in guys like Frazier and Chirinos specifically to serve as veteran role modeals, and were able to do so because all the MLB pieces weren't in place yet and there were roster spots available.   Now those spots aren't available, and if we bring in someone for veteranosity they are also going to have to be good enough to play on a championship team.   Harder to find those guys of course.   But I wouldn't dismiss the need altogether.
    • It sounds like it was bad but perhaps not as bad as they thought it would be.
    • Oh, I'd love to have one come through our system by being drafted and developed. No doubt at all.
    • Paging @Tony-OH to the thread.  🤣 I've actually advocated for this in the minors forums...letting other teams draft and try to develop guys to see which have a shot of sticking and which don't.  Essentially let other teams make mistakes in the draft and trade for guys that are still in the lower levels in other systems but you think have a shot.  I do believe that's part of Elias's strategy....as risk adverse as he is, he's not going to take risks on drafting pitching if he views that's the biggest risk in the draft. All I'm saying it'd be nice to have a Skubal come through our system.  Does anyone really disagree with drafting and developing a Cy Young winner or is that something you guys aren't interested in?
    • Oh, I get that. I just think you'd be hard pressed to say year in and year out the Central is anything but a mediocre division.  Typically, the AL East has at least 3 strong teams, with some seasons where 4-5 of them have winning records or close to it.  But it doesn't matter. As said before, I've been saying for weeks prior to the end of the season that the Tigers were a very good team. I just wouldn't trade our org, team, farm, whatever for the Tigers.
