I think it meant that Dan somehow got heat on the board for not signing Conlin in the fourth round despite the medical issues.  And that it apparently turns out to have been a good choice not to sign him.

It's still an awful choice not to sign him & it was an awful choice to draft him. It's likely we were the only team who was going to touch him & we wasted the slot money. All pitchers go through injury concerns, make an offer that lets us use the slot money at minimum or sign him, he's a kid, fix the issue and get the arm.

I want to know who the Nationals were willing to offer...if Dan had been allowed to take their call.

I can tell who they weren't offering, Soto, Robles, and Fedde.  I wouldn't have sent Britton over without getting one of those three.

What makes the Conlon pick even worse is that we thought we were being "creative" in picking Lamar Sparks shortly after, in what we thought would be a package deal enticing Conlon to sign with his buddy. Sparks probably wasn't worthy of being picked in that position.

You guys know that Conlon failed his physical with the Giants right?  We took the money we were going to give Conlon and gave it to Cameron Bishop. He's doing really well in Aberdeen.

MLB letting the O's use their remaining savings (not the Conlon slot money which was lost) on Bishop after the O's screwed that up went a long way to improving the draft.

Who cares? We Have to offer him enough to use the slot money elsewhere. He's 18? 19? Unless his arm is falling off just let him rehab. He's got talent and if he misses it's not a big deal. Pitchers all go through injuries. We drafted him, it's a failure. No matter what it's a failure.

We could have offered Conlon slot, signed him, & had just as much for Bishop.
