It would be stupid to pay 2million for a utility infielder of Flaherty's level 2 million, when you have other needs and a player could do it for the minimum. Honestly clogging up the roster spot when Wilkerson needs to be on it anyway is another reason it would be unwise. If his bat were any good like Moira's was back before he became a starter that would be another matter.

Wilkerson is a good guy to have on the 40 man roster but I will not count on him beginning the year in the majors.   Most of the UIF at bats will come from SS.  Wilkerson has hardly played SS.  And he has not played above AA.  He probably  begins the season at AAA.

Best solution for Util next year is Flaherty. Give Flaherty the min. Develop Wilkerson in AAA.

If we hadn't stunted Flaherty's development, he might have been a starting 2nd base option for some bottom tier team. LH. Has good AB's. Some pop.  Played a heck of a 3B in 2014 when Machado got hurt. Has filled in admirably at SS for JJ.

Don't do the same with Wilkerson. I'd let him play all over the IF in AAA next year. We might need him to replace Machado or Schoop. Develop the guy. Why have him sit on the bench for 120 games up here?

I just think it's time to go in another direction than keep Flaherty.

The last thing I am concerned about is who the Orioles will use as a UT Infielder. Pitchers, Pitchers, More Pitchers. All shapes and sizes. Come apply.

Either bring in a true super-utility type guy like McLemore or pay someone the minimum.

Niko Goodrum was outrighted by the Twins and looks to be a milb free agent.  Very similar type utility candidate to Wilkerson, with perhaps a bit more power and experience playing SS.

I’d like to see the Orioles bring him onboard.

Looks like a guy that played less and less SS the higher he got in the minors.   There is probably a reason for that.

Of course, with his batting numbers, if he was a good SS he’d be a regular.

I think there is a good chance he’s better than a guy who is only now getting his first reps at SS.

Haven't watched him play, so I can’t be sure though.

Luis Sardinas in Norfolk, can play utility probably much better defensively than Wilkerson, unless he's a FA. Had a .767 OPS in Norfolk last year playing primarily SS.

Sardinas was re signed to a minor league deal. Might let those two fight it out in the Spring. Winner gets the spot, loser waits in Norfolk for an opening.

I don't see anyway Flaherty plays for the Orioles for the minimum. Wake me up   On this post when he signs a minimum contract anywhere!

Yeah if Wilkerson is our defensive specialist, solely because he might bring a .700 OPS to the position, im going to consider that bench spot a weakness. I think Sardinas is light years ahead of Wilkerson at this point.

Well, if Wilkerson beats him out for the spot, then you might want to get that light checked out.

He [Wilkerson] was the primary 3rd baseman at Bowie and doing quite well until the brass decided "hey, let's talk noodle arm from Frederick and stick him there!"

Mountcastle has so much more potential than Wilkerson, it's ridiculous.  I get that his arm may not be as strong, but an effort to find a position for an impact major league quality bat is so much more important than finding playing time for an over-aged, non-prospect that it's not even worth bringing it up.
