Like the previous years, this will be the thread where we will keep the draft picks and follow them through signing. Post any signings in this thread, or in the forum, and I'll keep this post updated.

Thanks for the support, glad you like what we are doing here. I’m trying to have a my take edited onto each player’s draft thread by Friday morning at the lastest, most will get done tonight but

My brief take on each pick is done through Round 12 with video when available.  Also a handful of the later round picks, still need to do more digging. My best value in the top 10 rounds is Yeank

Yes, they lost the 2nd round pick for that signing.

The main unsigned pick is Blaine Knight, he's been in Baltimore for a physical, but no announcement yet. It's hard to imagine him not signing if his physical is not a disaster,  the Orioles have about 1.1M of bonus money left to offer him. How much he signs for will dictate whether there is money left to sign Caleb Kilian or other later round overslot candidates.

What does it mean:

3.   - (87. $663,200)   Blaine Knight - RHP-Arkansas that looks like he signed for $663,200 on the list?

The Orioles have reached agreements with Round 13 pick, 3B Andrew Fregia from Sam Houston State and Round 25 pick, OF Nick Horvath from Florida. Still working to finalize with Round 3 pick, RHP Blaine Knight of Arkansas, but not done yet.

From the outside, it looks like a pretty successful 2018 draft. It would have been great if the O's could have signed one more of the overslots, but it's great they were able to sign the first 13 picks. Now we get to see if the Os can develop them properly.

 I don’t even want to think about that. I am disappointed for the kid. After all you do to get to that point, and this happens. SMH. Denaburg got a nice bonus from the Nats despite some medical issues. They are both Brevard County kids and know each other well. I hope he recovers from whatever issues he is having and has a strong run at Mississippi State.

It's really rare for a guy to become one of the top 800 baseball players in the world. A lot of promising kids are injured and never get the shot to try. I feel bad for him. I wish he had taken the 47% offer. Likely the best he will ever see.

Perhaps so. We know many of the same people, so I will make some inquiries to try to find out what happened. I do not know him well, though we are fairly close to some of his teammates. I wonder if it is a shoulder and not the elbow. Not sure what the Braves think about rehabbing a guy and taking a chance on him. The Nats have that track record of taking medical risks, which is what I alluded to in he previous post. 

Its a little surprising, though, because the kid was in a program year round that is really excellent for pitchers to grow without being overused. They had several stud pitchers there in Brevard County the last several years. Stewart’s teammate, their #2 starter, is a Florida signee, RHP Nick Pogue. Remember that name. He will be a top pick in three years. A little raw now, but he has been handled extremely well through the years.

As a side rant, related somewhat, I suspect that the world of amateur scouting is what is actually to blame for these kids’ demise. All of the damn showcases are year round now. Kids burn out, plain and simple. The pitchers get little rest. Being fresh out of that grind, I can tell you I will do things differently with my younger son. They killed my son’s love of the game. And as far as I know, Carter never had arm or shoulder issues. They have to do something about this crap. It is killing the game. At least take the fall off.

      I’m going to preface this by saying (1) I expect to get crushed for bringing it up and (2) it shouldn’t impact trade deadline strategy.     I think Felix is going to pitch in the playoffs. There is nothing I have to go on other than gut feeling, in fact Elias has clearly stated otherwise. But I think that is what he is shooting for. I bring it up only on the premise of having a guy in the bullpen who could miss bats.  They could have him be a situational guy and leave Kimbrel where he is for this season.

      For Norfolk, Cook has started 29 games at 1B with a .996 fpct. and 5 games each at LF, CF, RF.   He started one game at 3B and made an error and at lower levels played a decent amount of 2B.   I think he’s probably an emergency/last resort guy at 2B/3B and @Tony-OH seems skeptical of his outfield defense in general.  Saying all that, with a LH heavy hitting OF he has a decent shot as soon as next year, especially if Norby gets moved.  Norby, with the ability to play LF/RF/2B would probably be his chief competitor for a backup role.  Also depends on what they do with Hays.

      Your definition of what we need and @Bemorewins definiton of what we need may be different.    Getting a #3 starter he feels confident as a game #3 starter in the playoffs.   Who, in his mind, is that pitcher?   Fedde will not require one of those guys.  Crochet might.

      “Dramatics”? That’s an interesting way of framing my opinion. I promise you I am as calm and cool as a cucumber. There’s no “dramatics” going on here. As you know, numbers fluctuate during any given period of time in the season. Good/great players have bad/cold stretches and bad/terrible players have good stretches. IMO we do not possess the type of top end talent at the back end of the bullpen needed to win multiple rounds against the best opposition in October.  If you are confident in Cano/Kimbrel or worse in Vespi/Baker/Perez/etc getting Soto and Judge out in a big spot late in the game in Yankee stadium in October, that is fine. I am not.  Just as an observer of baseball, Holmes is a much better pitcher than any reliever that we have. I would be much more confident in his talent than any reliever that we have. Now if we had Felix that would be one thing. But this season we do not. And I would hate for a team as good as ours to be held back by not making the needed/necessary move(s) before we get into October.  IMO we did that last season (with the starting pitching) and it didn’t end well. And I acknowledge that everybody doesn’t think like me nor have the same championship expectations/aspirations. Some fans/posters here have stated as much and that they are happy if we have a winning team year after year or if we just make it into the tournament year after year, regardless of results when we get there. And that’s fine. That’s just not my desired outcome. The great thing about this board is that we don’t have to agree and are able to express our opinions.
