Really disappointed to see the limited number of wins to his name when he has that kind of production.  Luckily, his other stats speak for him, but when you consistently put out that type of performance it's very disheartening to see that his team was not able to translate that into more wins. Hopefully his next team can take advantage more often.

(vs. MARLINS, 9/11)

Jacob deGrom broke a Major League record that was 108 years-old, from the Dead-Ball Era ........ 26 consecutive starts of ceding 3 or less runs.

The previous record-holder (25 consecutive starts) had been held by the late Leonard Leslie King Cole  from the Dead-Ball Era, who did it in 1910 for the Cubs.

The record may be true, but the context matters quite a bit.  DeGrom has allowed three run in seven or fewer innings four times, and has been pulled from a game after six innings 10 times.  Cole appears to have had 18 complete games during his run, although he was also pulled in a start where he allowed two runs in two innings.

Of course DeGrom also has the (dis)advantage of not facing lineups comprised mostly of undernourished 5' 9" guys with an .080 ISO slowly swinging 40-ounce hickory.

The baseballs that are being used today are livelier than were the ones from when Cole pitched, also.

Thanks, Bob.

Arrieta's streak was done over 2 separate seasons, as opposed to King Kelly and deGrom.

Another 108 year-old MLB record was revisited by deGrom last night ........ most consecutive Quality Starts since 1910.

Walter Johnson holds the record of 31 consecutive Quality Starts, in 1910.

deGrom now has 23, more than anyone since then.

In fact, this is a new National League record ........ Johnson pitched in the American League.

The old National League record of 22 consecutive quality starts was held by both Bob Gibson and Chris Carpeneter.
