Jacob deGrom broke a Major League record that was 108 years-old, from the Dead-Ball Era ........ 26 consecutive starts of ceding 3 or less runs.

The previous record-holder (25 consecutive starts) had been held by the late Leonard Leslie King Cole  from the Dead-Ball Era, who did it in 1910 for the Cubs.

vs. NATIONALS ))))  (Opening Day, 2019)

Jacob deGrom extended his streak to 30 games, over 2 seasons.

He pitched 6 shutout innings, only days after signing a 5-Year, 137.5 Million extension with his team.

He ceded 1 Walk, and had 10 Strikeouts.

(vs. MARLINS, 4/03)

deGrom pitched 7 shutout innings, struck out 14 batters, AND he hit a home run.

The 14 Strikeouts were a career high for the start pitcher.

He also has a string of 26 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to last season.

Eddie Mathews beat the crap out of Frank Robinson AND Don Drysdale on two different occasions, in 1960 and 1957.

I don't think that Mathews was afraid of Bob Gibson (or anybody on the baseball diamond, for that matter.)

However tough you think you are, there is almost always somebody just as tough, or even tougher.

The streak is over at 31 games, spanning 2 seasons ........ deGrom ceded 6 runs in only 4 innings against the Twins, and his ERA for the 2019season subsequently ballooned up to 3.18.

deGroms' scoreless innings streak (which also dates back to last season) was also snapped at 27 innings.

Additionally, deGrom will remained tied with Bob Gibson for the all-time record of consecutive quality starts, at 26.

Day games?  They are going to have new records every day with the way they are awarding records these days.

There are day games, and there are night games. The distinction between the two isn't exactly analogous to Tom Selleck's character leading his club in 9th-inning doubles in the month of August.

Game pitched In the Pacific Time Zone, on the road, when the weather is between 83 and 94 degrees ........ that (like Tom Sellick's character leading his team in 9th inning doubles in the month of August) is rather dubious.
