Rom threw 3.2 innings of no-hit ball, extending his streak of allowing no earned runs to 29.1, before allowing a solo homer.    That homer was the only run he allowed in the month of May.    He finished today with 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K’s.   His ERA stands at 1.49.

So, Rom started 2019 with 3.2 scoreless innings and 8 Ks in his debut and was then crushed for 5 ERs, 10 H+W wit 6 Ks in 4 IP in his second start.

Since then, Rom has pitched 34.2 innings with 41Ks, 2 ERs and 30 H+W.

Rom has thrown 42.1 IP this season and less than 75 IP in his young career, but it is a ridiculously promising start.  Rom is not getting the press of GrayRod or Hall, but his results are absolutely stellar and one has to think his prospect status is poised to take on some major helium.  Rom may have to spend the next few seasons building up some IP - perhaps to 100+ this year and 130-150 next, but the effectiveness when he is on the mound is undeniable.

Rom piggybacked off Fenter’s start tonight and threw 4 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits, no walks and striking out 4.   Between him and Fenter: 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K’s.    Nice night!

Rom’s ERA is a minuscule 1.36.

Yet another fine outing for Rom tonight — 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K’s.   His ERA is down to 1.23.    The run came via 2 walks and 2 errors.

In his last 9 outings, Rom has allowed 4 runs, 2 earned.

The expectation was probably that Rom was going to spend the whole season in Delmarva but he is really going to force a promotion if he keeps this up much longer.

Here's a nice fluff piece on Shorebirds' All Star representative, 19 year old Drew Rom, a @Frobby favorite:

I think that Rom and the reporter got around the bases faster than Yusniel Diaz did when he hit that walk-off a few days ago!

TBF, Rom is only 19 and his celebrity is only burgeoning at this point.  As he says, "He is learning from the older guys" how to go about living.  He will learn soon enough!  ⚾

Rom piggybacked yesterday, throwing 4.1 innings of relief and allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk, striking out 7.    His ERA stands at 1.54.     It looks like the O’s are being very careful with his innings.   He’s at 64.1 for the season.    Seems like they’re targeting him for 100-110 for the year.

Rom has faded a bit in the last month or so.   He had an interesting outing today, 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 9 K’s.   In his last 4 outings covering 17.1 IP, he’s struck out 29 batters and yet allowed 13 ER.   I’d love to hear how he’s looking on the mound compared to April/May when he was very stingy with the runs.

I get the feeling that the O’s are being careful with his innings.   Now at 81.2 IP, 2.64 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 11.9 K/9.    Can’t really complain about that in a 19-year old 4th round pick.

Rom with 5 no-hit innings tonight, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts over 75 pitches.

His ERA through July 6th was 1.54, as Frobby mentioned, he has scuffled over his last 6 outings, allowing 20 runs over 26 innings for a 6.92 ERA. He should have at least one more start, potentially two depending on playoff matchups.
