Will Mike Elias force Chris Davis to mainly be the DH?

I've said before Davis may have a vision problem and should be given a thorough eye exam. There are different types. Not the kind you get in the mall. He may need contacts or have a cataract. His slipping defensively could be related to this as well. His reaction time to hits to first base and throws that bounce to 1B  is not the same as in years past  I've mentioned previously his bat speed is also slower and he should consider a lighter bat to help him get the bat around faster.  Mike Elias is a smart guy. I'm sure he and his assistants will exercise all means to help him. If Elias sees him look at strikes down the center of the plate too many times he wil probably get really upset.  Guess hitting?  Not when it's down the center and two strikes.

My guess is Davis will be given a chance to see if he can produce, but the leash will be short.

I don't know. It's not like he's blocking anyone. Mancini is more of a DH than a 1B. We don't need to win games any time soon. I think he will get every opportunity to figure it out, or humiliate himself into accepting a buyout.

Do you honestly think the O’s haven’t tested his eyes very thoroughly?    No team is that stupid.

Not everyone tests the same way. Period!

When you pay a player $23 million per year who is failing miserably I think you consider everything including different eye specialists. One may find something not discovered by another. If this was being done I think it would have leaked out to the media. Nothing ! Even Davis would comment if he went to a specialist nationally known. He would say everything is good visually.

His fielding lapses this past season were more noticeable and on a few occasions after a game he said he didn't see the ball clearly or get a good read on it or I just missed it. Why?

Because his reflexes aren’t as good as they used to be.    I can’t say if Davis has seen a specialist, but he has stated that his eyes have been checked and are better than normal.

Mancini is terrible at 1B. The 1B that will knock Davis off will likely be Mountcastle.

I don’t think Mancini is terrible at 1B.    He’s been a bit below average, under circumstances where he spends most of his time in LF and only plays 1B sporadically.    I think he’d be average if he played 1B consistently.
