Brandon Hyde stresses the importance of giving a full effort, whether through conversations over the phone, in face-to-face meetings or in spring training drills that send a message that carries into the regular season

...

If Ben Zobrist can do it with a bad back, knee, all kinds of stuff and give out an effort like that, the younger guys watching it, there’s no excuses. So, I think we set the tone with how we’re going to play, how we’re going to run. We’re going to practice running the bases hard.

“It’s going to be talked about a lot. They’re going to get tired of hearing it, but that’s OK.”

Loving everything about this new regime so far. This is another example. Hey, how about hustling and working and paying full attention. Cal Senior would be proud. (Although he'd probably use a few more swear words to describe it.)

I like the "beginner's mind" and max effort approach. Everybody's developing, or at least aging/changing. So taking in new information along the way makes a ton of sense for every player. And effort is the one thing the players can control, so focusing on that makes a ton of sense from a player-development standpoint.

It's interesting to see guys come in with an established strategy.
