Last year they were pretty much doing that accidentally, lol, or at least it seemed like our starter got knocked out a lot before the 3rd time through.

Makes sense in general, depending on who the pitcher is and the game situation.

Haha true. Honestly a great point.

If anything, though, hopefully this means less of the whole Buck thing of trying to squeeze out an extra couple batters out of a guy who is clearly completely gassed. Will depend on the bullpen a lot though.

I was gonna say that. And if true it signals an 8 man pen. I see why Buck did that, to protect his precious pen. You need the backups to get your starter out early. Better than the alternative like esmd said, starters out by default after 2 1/2 times thru. ?

1st inning ERA - 6.44 (.285BA 128 runs).......5th inning ERA - 6.56 (.300BA 122 runs)

Good to see they are using the analytics (woohoo) to make decisions but is there anyway they can revisit the first inning... seems that its a moot point if we can't fix that first especially If we are trotting out the same cavalry (lol :drek:) as last year....

That's a big change from Buck trying to get the starter to go 6 innings to save the pen and giving up a bunch of run in the fifth.

Yeeeeuuuppppp. I feel like this will mean more long guys in the pen maybe?

Maybe have the closer start the first inning?  :-)
