They're not going to be sold, they're merging with the Nats.  That'll solve the MASN problem, and the Lerners and Angeloses will be compensated for the loss of O's MASN revenues out of the expansion fees for Austin and Portland.  The new Baltimore-Washington Nats will play in DC, except for two Frank Robinson Classic home games each in Montreal and Baltimore every year to celebrate the franchise's rich history.  Highly-placed sources in the Illuminati have confirmed all the details, it'll happen as early as next year.

What a yin yang that'll be.  Half of me won't know how to live with the other half of myself.  I suppose it'll come down to who's got the 13th player on the 25 man roster as a battle for who really wins.

.. but we all know what will happen to those papers. They will go to where many other papers have gone to die; Peter Angelos' desk. They'll sit there for decades long after he's gone because that desk will never die even if all the papers on it do. Somehow, the Davis contract made it through all the rubble. Very unreliable, that desk.

Seriously though, despite the fact that it's still looked down upon by some in the local media, the Hangout remains the place to find out what's important to be discussed or addressed with the Orioles. It's power is having so many great and knowledgeable posters and collectors of information working on Orioles information. This is crowd sourcing with a heavy sprinkle of some really smart people from all kinds of lines of work.

This is why I scoff at the people who were giving me a hard time about posting this article. I didn't agree with the article, nor did I think the team was going anywhere, but now we have the entire situation out being discussed enough that "Orioles officials" had to comment.

Sometimes I think people forget I've been doing this for 20+ years now. Not my first rodeo. :D

Man... this is all a business. If it makes business sense, the Orioles will be outta here on the first thing smoking. While I want to believe that the rich history of the Orioles will forever stay in Baltimore, the times have changed but the money game hasn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they stay or go. And all this "We're not going anywhere" is nothing more than coach speak. The Front Office isn't going to show their cards IF something is really in the workings. I just pray nothing is in the works because I love my O's.

The money exploded in the 70s and 80s, as teams realized they had to have cash to afford free agents and cable happened at the same time.  There has been one major league team move since the money went crazy.  One.  And they played in a French-speaking province that MLB couldn't figure out a way to blackmail into building them a free Mallpark to replace a terrible old crumbling multipurpose half-dome.

It would be astonishing if MLB was so craven as to allow Camden Yards to sit vacant so Nashville or Las Vegas can try to start something the Orioles began 137 years ago.

      I've made it clear that if they don't sign Santa and Burnes I'm ok with it as long as the money is allocated to other players they feel that fits their profile better .You know you have people on here like SG who only hears what he wants to hear. I need to learn to ignore that guy.

      I also think Santander will age better than Trumbo, despite my repeated comparisons of the two players. But I don't know that he will age better than Trumbo and all of the other one dimensional sluggers who were enjoying the retired millionaire sports star lifestyle by their mid-30s, and I don't want the Orioles to be on the hook when the world finds out in 2 or 3 years. Re-signing Santander to a 4 year, $80 million dollar deal is something the DD/PA regime would have done. Hopefully the ME/DR regime is smarter than that (and I think they are). 22nd percentile is really bad, man. And it's unlikely to improve in his 30s.

      But that is not what you said. You said he’s a bad fielder, just not quite Trumbo-tier. Thus, you were stating he is close to as bad a fielder as Trumbo was, which is not correct. Generally speaking, no player makes up the loss of offensive value with defensive value as the age. It is usually one of the first things to go. I was not making any sort of argument that he was going to make up declining offense with defense, just pointing out that you made a preposterous statement.

      At least relative to the rest of the league Santander has an interesting profile because he is comfortably above-average at making contact; his whiff rates are much better than Trumbo's so he's not really as much of a TTO player as you would think.  This gives him hope that he will age a little bit better than someone like Trumbo.  Though he's still got a good shot of being out of the league in 3 years.

      It's not the money, it's the years.  I wouldn't mind signing him for a year or two, even at what I'd consider to be stupid money.  But what I DON'T agree with is signing him for any more than 2-3 years as I don't think he's going to age well.  And I expect him to get more than 3 years from someone, so I'm a hard pass.  Can we afford him?  Money wise, sure.  But I don't want to see us stuck with him 4-5 years down the road when his skillset has greatly diminished, but he's still playing every day because we owe him a lot of money and a lot of loyalty.  Let some other club take that risk, get the QO pick and move on.
