Glad you enjoyed it.Not free  for non 2020 Birdland  members but coats are a good thing to donate.  I am just not sure what it accomplished. No former or current players or minor leaguers  Elias making the same speech for the seventh time this year. Maybe cleared out some inventory from the Oriole store.

What is a DD card?

What is funny, on the MLB Auction site, the Orioles had  TON of their "Authentic" stuff for very cheap. Things were about $25-$50 cheaper than what I saw them for during the season and you could get a dozen baseballs (11 game used, 1 random autographed) for $50.

They said they were going to do some really nice things besides Fanfest this year.So far for Birdland members to go to a studio to hear players call in.I know the spread for food is amazing but that is not interactions with the fans.Maybe interaction with your stomach. Also whatever that was yesterday  They still have time to do something next month but would have to start promoting it soon.Up and coming minor leaguers and former Orioles would be nice. But reporting for Spring Training is February 11th and after that the last game is on a Monday and regular season opens on a Thursday. Dont see how they can do anything then. I heard no game at the Naval Academy again even though they have promised one for three years.I think Mike is the right guy for the rebuild but other things seem to be done sloppy and cheaply.

I know they are going to do some interactions during the season but not the same as doing things before the spring.

But go out and promote the team to your friends and others. It is your duty as Oriole fans. ?

My STH account representative said they had events planned for January with the theme of "The Orioles coming to your town."  So I imagine they will take the Bird and maybe a handful of players and similar items to different hubs around the area.

Otherwise, if you want player interaction and other stuff like that, you need to be a season ticket holder to use your points, or buy into the theme night packages when they are released.

Heard they were going to do a scaled down caravan sort of thing Heard either January 18th or 25 and or 26th.

At times humorous and other times depressing, a nevertheless enjoyable read.

Last offseason when he was doing things like the AMA on Reddit I thought Elias got it.

Things like this make me wonder if that is actually the case.  I don't see how this event comes out as a net win for the Orioles or their brand.

Having gone to a number of Fan Fests in the last dark ages, they weren't exactly better in instilling faith and optimism.  You can put the event in any venue you want, confidence and optimism is grounded in the team and the players on it.  If you're not looking forward to that, you're not going to see much to find enjoyable.

People flock to the inner harbor every year for the German Christmas stuff.  So the O's tried to do something like that.  I think it was a good idea.  Of course the team is rebuilding.  It is what it is.  It was an outside event in December.  If you're a blogger on fangraphs, that was probably not up to snuff for you.  But the idea is that they would do a family friendly event, with people in the holiday spirit, and offer a bit to the hardcore fans.

People just like to complain.  "It wasn't enough for the hardcore fan."  "It wasn't enough for the kids."  C'mon...

If you're looking for Faith and Hope, you can find them dancing on the block tonight at 10pm.  We're rebuilding, it is what it is.

Yeah, I think it's ok.

I'm not suggesting it was some huge black eye fiasco just that overall it was a net loss for the brand.

I thought they would get some bright young minds in that would take over the social media accounts and produce interesting content, not do stuff like this.

The thing with the Christmas market is it is a multi-day event.  This was a 3 hour event.  If it rained half a day at the Christmas market you either arrive later or come a different day.  This was a three hour event.  It rained the entire time.  I don't think it ended up being family friendly as who wants to stand around in the cold pouring rain with their kids.

It was like the Towson town festival this year.  It was  a 2 day event. It was supposed to rain on Sunday so we went on Saturday and had a great time.  We even saw the Oriole Bird there.

I think they were trying to spend as little money as possible.  And it showed.   Probably having it for 2 days would have been better as the weather on Sunday was great. I went to a Christmas tree farm on Sunday and cut a tree down and other than it being a little bit windy it was fun weather for family outing outside.

So either they should have had it for two days, had a rain date , had longer hours, or have a back up plan for rain.  Maybe move it inside the stadium. Move  the bird to the club level.

I think epic fail is the only way to describe it.

That is an extremely well written article. Seems like the guy is wasting his talent writing about sports.

"Walking into the stadium, it was clear that warmer days were a long way off. Picnic tables were stacked on top of each other, ensconced by piles of wet leaves. The sky was a thick grey and unloaded a consistent drizzle on the sparse migration of attendees toward the Eutaw Street entrance. A little girl with a Frozen umbrella started crying."

I doubt it. The brand is specifically Mike and Sig and they are still pretty clean on this.

I dunno. What if the weather had been sunny and 45? Suddenly that gives the event a whole different vibe. I do think a little more clarity is needed on why these events over Fan Fest, but it's really no big deal for me.

The AMA thing was great and I think he's upheld the promise of communicating well in general. I'm not sure that relates super closely to the Winter Warm Up, but I hear you. The offseason fan stuff needs to be done better and communicated better. I'm sure the event wasn't exactly what they hoped and maybe they adjust.
