Chris Davis - release him PLEASE

I love the Orioles but keeping the WORST hitter in baseball in the club house, (because you owe him millions, paid him a gazillion and should have signed Cruz instead) does not lend itself to good team chemistry. Other players get to witness a player (admittedly once awesome) now not carrying his weight, who stays quiet in the club house,  gets less hits than anyone in the game, shows little leadership and strikes out more often than getting on base. Suck it up and do it....PLEASE let him go, let him go, let him go.

I'm curious as to what leverage the Mets had to get Cespedes to agree to a reduction in his contract that will save them over $10 million.

Must have gotten hurt doing something he shouldn't have been doing, per the terms of his contract.

Oh yay, another newbie thread with nothing to offer.

I looked for the most recent Chris Davis thread to post my related question about Cespedes renegotiating his contract in.   This happpened to be it.   I did not want to start yet another CD thread so I looked for one to pose the question is.

Perhaps the new poster does not know there have been prior threads discussing this topic, or how to find them.    He’s brand new, so cut him some slack.

For his benefit, here’s one of many threads discussing all things Davis:

The Cespedes thing is interesting. He must have been doing something he clearly shouldn't have when he broke that ankle. If memory serves, he said he "stepped in to a hole on his ranch".

For him to give up that much guaranteed money, he clearly didn't want anyone to know what he was really doing.

My first post wasn't a rant thread.  One technique is to ease yourself into a new community.

I just don't see them moving on from Davis until the team turns the corner. He is still owed a ton of money and takes up a roster spot that would require and additional $500,000 to the min salary guy who would fill that slot. They simply don't want or need to spend it. '

I personally would limit his playing time as necessary to give at bats to the younger players. The only thing that would change that is an early rebound. Even then there is likely no chance of moving him.

Cespedes said he stepped into a hole on his 88-acre ranch in Florida, and claimed he wasn’t riding a horse when it happened (which must be prohibited). But if they knocked $10 mil off his salary, the team must have had evidence to the contrary.

Evidently through the convoluted Agent/GM relationship they have up there.

I always wonder on new poster release Chris thread if it is not someone inside the Davis camp trying to have it happen.

It really is the best thing for all parties for Davis to be released. The only thing that makes any sense to me is that Peter Angelos is really dug in on this topic, or at one point was and his family chooses to respect his wishes. I would imagine that if Peter were no longer with us, Davis' status with the team would change quickly.

    • Thanks everyone. We are in a bad way here. Things are still evolving but the devastation is off the charts. This is worse than the 1916 flood, which was the worst on record.  Thanks for the support. Many people are suffering. We have the hospital open and functioning in disaster mode. Doing our best in a really bad situation. I may try to check into OH for a break, now and then. Go O's!
    • I think Suarez earned the right to make one of the first 5 starts next year while at age 29 McDermott and Young are finishing whatever they need to do so the Orioles can control their age 37 seasons at Arb 2 if they are any good.     I might be off on the years. Povich's progress this past month was enticing enough I do think he is closer to Kremer in the 3/4 section of the rotation than a swingman. Suarez has been so good this year I think it is bad mojo between Elias and his clubhouse if he doesn't get a few turns early.    Clubs using detailed video analysis rigorously to spot mechanics they can fix to unlock this kind of production I also think overrides anything ZiPS or PECOTA or whatever floats your boat there would say about Suarez's demographics. If we don't sweep but survive, I think Friday is an interesting discussion if you use Povich or Suarez in Yankee Stadium Saturday.
    • I usually agree regarding the timing.  But not in this instance.  His character and integrity is a big part of the public diacussion around Charlie Histle.  It's a healthy discussion we should have. He made public opinion part of his legacy.  Not because of his fame (i.e. normal athletic stardom).  But in how he tried to use it to gain support for his HOF push.  His character is a big part of who he was.   Ultimately you couldn't resist adding your opinion on the man. It's part of the discussion  and Pete's legacy.
    • It really is. Seeing the photos of the before and after is just heartbreaking.
    • I will be there today and have tickets to game 3 if needed    Hopefully rain is over by at 3:00 today - Lets Gooo
    • It’s crazy how cheap you can get tickets but parking is insanely expensive.
    • It looks like Sal can be 3rd or 4th any given day. Hyde isn't going to mess with Burnes, but you could also hook the Game 2 or Game 3 starter after 17-18 batters faced, use one of those high velo lefties on Witt, and go to a righty for Sal during the third time through the order.
