"We had a great minicamp,” Holt said. “We had a few pitchers come down, six total. All had very specific things they were working on, and without getting into those bullet points right now, everybody came in with a hunger to learn and really put in solid focus to the work. And left here after three solid, intensive days with things to go back and have in their toolbox for the rest of the offseason before they come into camp.

“David Hess came down, Kliner came down, Armstrong, all these guys had work on their deliveries that was very crucial them being able to access their best pitches consistently to quality locations. It was really, really solid work and a solid work ethic and very engaged sessions with those guys.

“I think the important thing to remember is we have some very talented guys who are on the big league team that are also working very hard to improve their game and, whether they have years in the big leagues or have been up and down over the last couple of years, we have some very hard workers right now doing really good things again.”

I thought it was mostly a thing for the coaches rather than players, no?

It's good to see that two people who really need help, Hess and Kline, were present. These guys have the ML velocity, but not a whole lot else. Would be a huge boon if either  finds something that allows them to be useful pieces.

At this point, I would think the pitchers would be beating the O's door down to have the team sponsor them to do this type of stuff.  I hope every pitcher we invited to camp showed up.

I thought it was just for pitchers who were given specific mechanical adjustments to make in the offseason, so they could check on their progress.

It was. Chris Davis chose not to attend.

He's in a big time different situation though. A lot of the pitchers are fighting for a career that may come to an end soon... Davis has stacked his paper. Disappointing that he chose to stay home and count  money though.

Hess has one option remaining. Let him get SP innings in ST, if that doesn’t work then you make him a reliever in AAA. Keep him on a relief schedule and in AAA for a decent chunk of time. No yo-yo ing around.
