MLBTR: Players Make Counter-Proposal

That's kind of promising! Full prorated (even on a lessened schedule) is quite a concession compared to their ridiculous first "sliding scale" they first proposed.

My memory... but guys scheduled to make $30 mill offered $7 mill I think it was...

It makes a certain amount of sense.  The networks get most of their revenue from the postseason. - regular season nationally televised games get very little ratings.

So the networks will probably pony up a good chunk of what they normally do.  More than prorated for the length of the season.

So even though the lack of fan/parking/concession revenue will hurt the owners, they'll be paying out 1/3 of the payroll while getting more than 1/3 of the TV money presumably.

It could be the framework for a solution.  Paying pro rated salary for a 114 game season while not getting fan revenue for those games was their biggest issue.  This more than cuts that loss in half.  If TV is willing to to still pay a good amount for the postseason that loss isn't too painful.  And accepting the players offer or at least something close to it would let them avoid their biggest PR nightmare of having to open their books.

What a mess.

Whatever solution is chosen, baseball must end in October. Football,  basketball, hockey, college football, Those are the sports of the fall and of the winter.

Baseball can’t intrude. Even if we only have a 50 game season we must end in October. Anything else will just cheapen the product, Because baseball be intruding on footballs territory and saying, “hey look at me” and football will look back and say, “no”

MLBPA wants 114 games. MLB wants 50-60 games. Meet in the middle - that's the ~80 game schedule MLB first proposed. Funny how that works.

The owners seem to be willing to pay a little less than 1/3 salary no matter how many games are played. I don’t know what meeting in the middle of games played had to do with anything,

If air conditioning hadn't been invented I'd live in Colorado or Switzerland or Canada or something.

I was in Colorado in August one year, and dang it was humid. :)

A friend kept telling me about Arizona and how it was a dry heat and no humidity.

For me, when I was in Phoenix, it was dang hot, dry or not dry, it was nasty hot.

I tried visiting relatives in Florida one August, that was a mistake.

I was wetter from walking to the house, to the car in the driveway, then if I had jumped into the pool, which in August, was pretty much a large hottub. :)

I actually LOVE curling. Every Olympics I get so amp'd up about it. Let's play sometime.

Several times I've looked at schedules for the open curling at the (I forget the name) curling rink that's somewhere near Landover, I think.  But it's never worked out.
