Richard Bleier Traded to Miami

2nd, Why would ME do a courtesy trade? And why remove Bleier just to get him back later? The only benefit I can see in that is to free up a roster spot for a while, which we're not really desperate for right now.

Because right now the Marlins can't field a team.  The league needs them to be able to field a team.

The O's aren't going anywhere this season, they can "lend out" a reliever.

Not as if the O's are going to be battling the Marlins for a playoff berth.

You explained  well why were doing the “PTBNL” route, But isn’t it also true that if we get a guy and announce him, we have to put him on our 60 man? By delaying the announcement, even if we already know who we’re going to get, we maintain that open space and we basically don’t have to worry about the new guy until after the season.

Because the Orioles are a franchise that's part of the MLB corporation.  MLB is trying to have a season under strange circumstances, and the Marlins need to be able to field a team.  In 1902 when John McGraw ran off to join the Giants in mid-season and took a bunch of players with him the rest of the AL donated players to the Orioles so they could finish out the schedule.  I think this may be similar.

Why would the Marlins, in contention for the worst team in baseball, want Bleier?

To me the need to fill out a roster is the only rational reason they would trade for him.

Could be. But as return for Bleier, he's a very good reliever when he's on, but he's still just an old reliever with bad peripherals really outperforming his stats. You can't really expect a top prospect for him. Which is all you would get from the Marlins' 60-man. And you can't trade those who aren't on the 60-man. So it's a PTBNL. Like SteveA said, it'll be announced after the season.

I have been more free of my obsession this year, actually....and it has been a bit of a relief, frankly.    And as I said, I have already cut out most of my previous dollars I sent to Angelos and MASN and MLB.TV......And more and more soon to be former fans are going to find better ways to spend their time because of the pandemic and its effects ...and will vote with their pocketbooks.   MLB can not “owe me anything”  and millions like me anything and we shall see how their business does going forward.
