So, they won’t spend money.  Something that probably was obvious in many ways but it’s also pretty dumb imo.

A guy like Stroman, for example, should absolutely be attainable and someone to look at.  You can spend money, even if it’s a year early.  Nothing wrong with that.

It also sounds like they will, moronically, still hold onto Davis..which makes the roster crunch that much more of an issue at CO/1st/DH.

Elias is good at what he does..but he’s still playing the game with 1 hand tied behind his back because we have a piss poor ownership group.

It always comes back to ownership with this team.

I don’t disagree what the motives could be about Davis and some of this is just GM speak, which you largely can ignore.

That being said, I do think Elias is being truthful that they have a contract that they have to deal with and they have shown zero indications that they will just cut him and eat the deal.

Wonder how MacPhail got them to eat the Gibbons contract?

I realize that it wasn't nearly as much money, but Gibbons also wasn't nearly as bad a player as Davis has been.

Aside from Gibbons, has ownership eaten a significant contract by cutting a player early?  I feel like there was 1 or 2 more but I'm drawing a blank.

I think ownership doesn’t want to cut him in hopes of an injury that would allow them to collect some insurance money or a failed drug test that would allow them not to pay him for that time.  I believe that this team is close to if not at the point where they can no longer have dead weight on the 25(26) man or woman roster

Ponson but they tried to get out of paying.

I don’t think they’re going to continue with Davis, one of the important skills of this job is being politically correct, and Mike is not going to say anything but “the right things” until a change is actually made. But I think there’s no chance that Davis is on the roster to start next season.

A lot of you think Mancini will be ready for next year. I am a lot more pessimistic than many of you. I'm not sure if he had a colostomy as part of his surgery or chemo/radiation. Maybe you know. But this will take time. I had two cousins in their 20's pass from this. Hopefully they got it early. Still, I think it will be 2022 before he is at full strength. As far as Davis goes, well, there is no logical win, win outcome.

I thought I'd read that Davis knee issue was similar to what Trumbo went thru? If that's the case they most definitely could collect insurance $$$. The flip side is no one has a clue where the season will stand next year and if they have an opportunity to shave some $$$ on his salary, they will. I don't like it but I understand it. Agree we're really close to not having dead weight on the roster.

I was saying that last year too.  I'll believe Davis is no longer part of the "future" when I see the news he was DFA'ed.

Yes that’s true, but at the same time, if Elias were planning to dump Davis on Tuesday, on Monday, he’d still be preaching the party line, so whatever he says regarding Davis is irrelevant to the actual plans.
