Well that makes sense now.

Couple of things went wrong that inning:

1.  Wells got a perfect ground out to SS... but we had nobody playing SS.  I don't care what shift you use, you've gotta have somebody playing close to SS.  We gave them an extra base-runner and an extra out.

2. The sac fly to Mullens... we know he has a bad arm... how do our infielders not know that?  Either the 2B or SS has to set up a relay throw to 2nd base.  Urias makes a lame half-hearted effort, and they get runners on 2nd and 3rd.

And we give away 2 runs.  Awful baseball.

So if a player like 2017 Gallo was at the plate:

Quote

Gallo was the only hitter with at least 200 tracked batted balls who pulled more than half of them -- 50.4 percent -- and his ground-ball pull rate was even higher, with an incredible 70.8 percent of his grounders going to the right side.

You'd leave a guy at Shortstop?

Good story, but I don't think so. During the McGraw years, the Giants frequently switched uniforms and colors, usually using red or blue or both. The first time they tried black and orange was in 1933, the year after McGraw retired, They stayed with those colors for three seasons, then switched to those colors for good in 1951, possibly sticking with them because they won the pennant with their new uni's.
