You don't really need a large sample size to see stuff with statcast. Grant it you would like to see more, but after watching his stuff in the minors, in matches up with the savant numbers.

Just so you know, not every signee gets 100k, just that anyone after 10th round can't get more than 100K or it has to come out of their signing bonus allotment. As a 40th rounder, he probably was lucky to get 10K.

6-6, 245 I guess makes him about 90% Lance Lynn/Tyler Wells-sized.   

So maybe any given night we stay close to the Jays, we work Vlad maybe like Alex Wells 1st time up, then Baker, then Lowther, then T. Wells or Sulser.    Reliever, starter....who knows??

Looks like the Pirates didn't offer enough to keep him off campus when he was their 40th round dart throw, B-Ref shows he pitched himself up to the 11th round in college.

11th rounder when he signed out of college.   40th round was when he was drafted out of high school.

Which is the dumb question because the question shouldn’t be player X vs Harvey.  
 

It is Harvey vs Richie Martin or Kriske or any of the other several players that they kept on the 40 man over Harvey. 
 

No one has ever said you must keep Harvey.  The argument is the timing of it and the decision to cut him over several other guys.

Baker was just in the Top 200 of AAA East pitchers at 41.33 innings, and 1st in H/9 (3.9 per 9 innings!) yielded by a lot.

Obviously BABIP luck played some part in that, but yielding 30% less Hits than AAA Shane Baz in a similar number of innings is an outcome that might have some signal behind the noise.   

Among those 200, 1st in ERA, 24th in estimated K% and 129th in BB% summing to 32nd in estimated K-BB%.    5th in HR/9, letting up just 1 HR.

One of just three with 10+ SV - seems he was about the best relief ace in the league, and no one could touch him.   Guess he used the covid layoff well.    Being really fanciful, wonder if the Jays would have selected him for a wildcard game roster over someone like say Ross Stripling had they made it...

Baker saved 11 of 13 at AAA in 2021.  He saved 12 of 14 at AA/AAA in 2019.  Didn't pitch in 2020.  That's 88% over two years.
