My point is Angelos doesn't care about winning, so don't get your hopes up on this signing. Was a pretty obvious point...

Angelos likes the idea of having the local kid on the team. He undertsands that in order to bring the fans back the Orioles have to invest something in the team. The attendance spike from Tex alone will cover his cost & then some. If the Orioles are able to contend in the next few years the attendence could return to form 35-40K everynight. The cash flow would be a windfall.

Go Hank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tex was at the game ....Whats more important is what he was doing before or after.

Right. I'm not going to sit here and tell you he was there getting woo-ed into playing for the Orioles or anything, because I really haven't the foggiest idea about that.

But I do know that he was there.

This whole process would be a lot easier to disect if Teixeira wasn't from Baltimore. It does worry me that he hasn't signed yet, even though we have a strong offer on the table. I am starting to get the feeling that we are being played.

I have to imagine that's a distinct possibility, but I can't imagine we'll get played with the opposition being the Red Sox. If it was the MFY's, then I'd be concerned.

The Red Sox won't go to $200MM, I don't think. They're smarter than that.

Not to get off topic, but that pisses me off. The Orioles don't want to pay for security so they ask for police because its "free" and have the city aka the taxpayer foot the bills on cops with OT. Buncha cheapskates.

Anyways, thanks for the info Intimidator. I also got the pleasure of seeing my rep to you be the difference between your first and second pip. I think its the first time I've noticed myself be a pipmaker.

A friend of mine had a buddy who used to work for the Baltimore City PD, and he also worked Orioles games. He did get paid overtime but IIRC it was the Orioles who picked up the tab, they weren't being paid by the PD.

I would imagine it would be the same in this case. Plus it may be less expensive than hiring a private security firm for these things and should anything ever get out of hand no need to wait for police to arrive.

    • It weakens what?  Horse hockey.  But sure ok.  It weakens any case. Well except for the way MLB decides what the tv territory is....and at the time...it required the Orioles to give up territory MLB said was it's exclusive right.  So, without any bias, what would any other team do if the largest part of their territory was taken and given away?   Under the above, every team moved into someone's territory.  That is pretty weak and it is irrelevant to the time the Orioles are was encroached and because everyone knows you know this, it is kinda stupid.  But of course it is technically correct, if you twist yourself into a pretzel.
    • Or you can hit six big dongs like the Padres did last night. That works too.
    • If Mayo is the starting first baseman, as he is likely to be, why can’t you keep Mateo and Urias?
    • Seriously now, I hope the Orioles young hitters are watching this. This is how you play postseason baseball against tough pitching.
    • Payroll will go up.  The wealth of ownership is not much of a factor.  However, I highly doubt these guys are looking to fund a better payroll out of their pocket.  Not saying they wont.  But throughout the league the only teams really doing that are San Diego and the Mets and in both cases, their owner was doing it for health reasons. And it really didn't work in either case.  The Orioles are going to spend more and the ownership may well invest in ways that increase revenue and unlike the Angelos family, plough that back into the team.  I see no reason why the Orioles cannot support a pretty substantial increase based on current revenues.  Angelos had a top ten payroll as recently as what 2016?  But I highly doubt the multibillion dollar ownership group is simply going to fund out of pocket in excess of revenues.   I would also say that it categorically NOT required. I don't even think we are really even looking for different things in the offseason.  But I think you are putting too much weight into what the ownership group might do with their pockets.  It is much more important that they express their desire and willingness to support their GM.  Angelos' family hindered every GM either in telling them what they could or couldn't do or by telling them they could not spend anything.  Those days are over and have nothing to do with the current situation.
    • Amazing, KC #9 hitter took three high 98 mph fastballs and then laced a single to left on a 3-2 count, scoring another RISP. What madness is this?
    • Those scrappy Yankees!  And to think they also led the league in homeruns!
