Back to Baseball........Tex signing with us is huge now as well as the future. If he doesn't sign I think BRob will be traded as well as Nick. Not saying Nick goes this year by any means but I'm not sure we could view him as a long term Oriole. Everyone is paying attention to what happens with Tex. We really need to make a statement to our fans, players, as well as the rest of the baseball world.

...which is why signing Teixeira is of utmost importance.

Right?

Right.

Mackus, I love ya, but if you don't think Tex signing with the Red Sux is a dagger... well, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I do think him signing with the Sox would hurt, but I don't think it completely mitigates our entire rebuilding process. We've still got Wieters coming up, 3 great SP prospects, and a pretty good system behind them. Of course, other teams have those things too, and we'll have to continue making a slew of smart moves, but I'm not gonna write off the next 5 years in Baltimore if we don't sign Tex.

Do you even know what E Pluribus unum means? Out of many, one.

So you just said Out of many Orioles. Way to go. It's probably people like you that start stupid rumors saying the O's are about to sign Tex...

Haha - perhaps not the greatest first post ever. But technically, he is correct.

Yes he is, however, the part I was referring to is in bold.

Any idea when something may actually happen, with any team? I really can't take this rollercoaster much longer. I've already thrown up too many times.

It has been everyone's consensus that we are 2 or 3 years away from competing. We do have a strong farm system. We do have talent on its way to the big leagues. No Tex is obviously a set back because it shows other FA they shouldn't come here. If those prospects do pan out, and we start to win some games, why wouldn't a top FA come here? As much as I want Tex to sign here, I don't blame him for not wanting to play for a team with a rep as bad as ours. The atmosphere here is miserable. We are taking strides in the right direction and I have full confidence we are on our way back to the "Oriole Way" Tex or no Tex.

But for God-sakes, SIGN TEX!!!

I think Nick is wanting to see results. That's my opinion.

Do you realize how much hinges on this one contract? Not only for the Orioles but all around Baseball?

Wherever Tex signs will mean MASSIVE moves popping up all over the country before the ink is even dry.

Be prepared for a fury of Hot Stove.

    • I'm curious to see if it is immediate IL or downshifting to Irvin's swingman role is possible. He has been preventing runs early in games, and if it is just stamina he might still be a puzzle piece in the upcoming stretch. Obviously possible something acute happened on one of the pitches yesterday, if so that might make him a 2025-2026 two year kind of guy like Mahle or Woodruff from this past offseason if somebody really likes him.
    • Tampa also rolled the dice on him one offseason with leaving him off the 40-man roster when his name was prominent as a top Rule 5 candidate. Nobody did the Anthony Santander thing out of A-ball with a catcher. He was a high school bat who commanded a $1.6M bonus, and some of why high school catchers maybe have 2nd place to high school pitchers as a risky demographic is they take so long to develop. The Mariners have Cal Raleigh now and Harry Ford later.    It makes "who will the backup catcher be in 2025" less of a mystery starting out the offseason.
    • Sure, he’s by no means somebody that the Orioles should be overly resistant to part with if he’s a necessary piece in a deadline deal. But he’s not superfluous in the system so he’s not somebody I would expect they look to offer up as trade bait. I think the Orioles will try to deal from their strength in infield, corner OF and C, and avoid trying to deal any pitchers or CF. But if the team they’re trading with is demanding pitching or CF in return, Fabian and others the Orioles would probably prefer to hang onto will be on the table. Like when the Orioles traded Zach Showalter in the Flaherty deal last year, likely because the Cardinals were demanding pitching.
    • Please please please stop with the Bauer! It's unbelievably tired, and smarter minds than you or I have decided that he's not worth the trouble. That means something. ME knows what he's doing.
    • It’s been a dramatic reversal. His command also looked good in Spring Training - 4 BB in 10.2 IP - so it was surprising to see it so bad early in the year. Hopefully it was just that back injury leading to the command issues and he’s over it now.
    • Teams will never give him the hoped for mega bucks.  Even if he was unlikely to ever get much more than a two year deal.  No it seems no team will give him even a real good one year deal.  He will be forced to accept a "prove it deal" Honestly it might be time to go the Trevor Bauer deal.  Sign him for one year deal and if he is too much distraction you cut him.  No way a team does not sign him if he is not being intentionally black balled.  The Orioles could afford to take the chance being a great team a couple of arms away from winning it all.
    • Considering we were DFA and losing him for zippo it a decent pick up. BTW, Hunt is showing in Seattle’s top 30 (#23) on MLB.com.
