Orioles place Tyler Wells on IL with "Lower left side discomfort"

After Tyler Wells came out of the game yesterday after holding his lower oblique area, the Orioles placed him on the 15-IL with "Lower left side discomfort."

Wells has made 20 starts this season going 94.2 IP with a 3.90 ERA. While he didn't miss a ton of bats, he was very consistent this season overall. 

If it is an oblique, it's doubtful we will see him until at least September if that.

At least it's not the arm.  But it sounds like it's probably one of those pesky obliques and if so, well, that's the end of the season for him, most likely.

One of the bright spots in our season, definitely.

Eager to find out if it's a true oblique or just, like, a bad back spasm that'll take a couple weeks.

I know we don't even have a true diagnosis yet, but, if possible, I'd like to see him return and pitch this year and continue to build up some innings.

Is it just me or have “oblique injuries “ just become a thing in the past five years? A more specific diagnosis of that used to be swept into a more general description? An epidemic caused by stressors created by how the game is being coached?

Hope he comes back this season if not it's a chance for Bradish and Hall (if he gets called up). And yes.. sigh.. I'm sure we'll have a Matt Harvey sighting at some point.

Any word on Wells status?  He went on the 15 day injured list on 28 July, so he’s eligible to return later this week.  I’ve searched for news but haven’t seen anything.
