We did much the same with Wells this year. Looks like his pitch count ramped up from 60 to 75 to 85 give or take.

Voth is 100% tendered. I also like Voth in the rotation. He was flat out nasty once he picked up the sweeper slider and got stretched out. Remember the dude was picked up off waivers as a reclamation project and I think after only one bullpen appearance he was thrust into the rotation. Like Tony said, he’s a bullpen piece if need be. That’s totally worth 1.5-2 million. 

Lyles also offers us value that doesn’t just relate to his performance, so we actually might pick up his option. He allows us to keep the status qou and is risk adverse. We don’t have to break the bank just yet on a FA deal, that might cost us a draft pick, and he helps buy us time on having to trade prospects. All that taken into account… picking up the option is the safe play.

It’s not that I love Lyles so much, I just hate the idea of trading our 2nd/3rd tier bats for a #3 type SP.
