Umps should not miss any calls on inside part of the plate even if the target is missed.  The all have their heads directly over the inside corner.

They miss calls right down the middle that are perfectly framed, you can't be surprised when the catcher has to make a stab on 101 across the entire plate that they miss that, right?

Again, the umps line up with their heads directly over the inside corner.  That should be the easiest call for them to make.  It shouldn’t matter where the target was.

Yet they continue to miss them all year long. It's even worse on outside calls when the catcher sets up inside and they pull the ball across the plate to the outside corner.

They miss more calls on the outside corner because they setup on the inside corner.  They have to guess, to some extent, on the outside corner.

I think you are remember how Sammy Stewart was used a bit in 1979 to 1981 a bit. 

In 1979 he pitched 5 or more innings of relief 7 times out of his 28 games of relief, six times in 30 games of relief in 1980, and seven times in 26 relief outings in his brilliant 1981 season. That's 20 times in 84 games of relief he went that distance or more.

By 1983 Stewart threw five or more innings in relief only 2 times in his 58 games. He threw 4 or more 10 times but was mostly used for 2-3 inning stints. Stewart was used 26 times for two or more innings but less than 4 innings. The other 20 innings he threw less than two innings.

In 1984 he only had 5 games where he threw 3 or more innings, none over 4 innings. 

So maybe it's fair to say the 1983-84 Sammy Stewart.

Below average command. This stuff is going to happen. He’s a guy that can get some outs to finish up the regular season. I don’t think we want him pitching in a playoff series. However, just like Gunnar in April, it’s not what Fuji is now, it’s does he develop into a trusted reliever by the end of September. It’s possible. 

I think he was just a bit nervous. He didn’t exactly get tested in Oakland. Tonight was probably the loudest game he’s ever pitched in. Santander even said he couldn’t here “anything” on the fly ball in the first innings.

The bad thing is that this is the bullpen "upgrade".  If they are counting on Cano being the setup guy and Fuji as the alternative, this could be the Achilles heel of this team.

Yeah I saw that too. Seems like he needs a Sports Psychiatrist or someone who can help him cope with pressure.
