My Tinfoil Take is that they are going to try and get less oversite in how the money is spent so the owners can funnel as much of it as possible to themselves.

The $5 million to CollegeBound Foundation was just a smokescreen.  Maybe $10 million to country music singer/songwriters is next.  That's not much of the $600 million.

Weird, this is almost like it written by someone who worked at CNN and MSNBC. Disgusting how political John Angelos will try and make the Orioles now. We all know the politics of this family, but the one thing Peter did very well was do things behind the scenes, not give verbal handjobs to the incoming Governor.

This is kind of personal to me.We have been working on this entertainment district since before 2014. Now it looks like Little John and Less is Moore the new governor want to get credit for the revitalization. F both of them. Sorry about my rant .

I could care less who gets credit for it as long as it gets done. Politicians and insecure magnates stroking each other's egos is a time honored and bipartisan tradition in this country anyway. Just get the deal done.

I'm trying to rank the following in order of importance, and it's surprisingly tough lol.

1. New long term lease with Camden Yards

2. Extend all three of Adley, Gunnar and Elias to long-term deals

3. Angelos sale to legitimate Ownership/Group

All three need to happen, just trying to decide what I'd be most excited about.

Fair enough. We did asked the Orioles to come to the renaming and they declined. I guess it was some National holiday that they couldn't attend or discuss it. I stop now. What about all of the above.

The Warner Street Entertainment District - situated between Horseshoe Casino Baltimore and M&T Bank Stadium - will now be called Walk at Warner Street.

But it's not the name change that has Baltimore entertainment officials excited.

The entire district is undergoing a massive redevelopment.

Representatives from the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, the Ravens, Topgolf and Paramount Baltimore discussed on Tuesday how they intend to transform the district to attract visitors and businesses and the timeline in which the project is expected to be completed.

I mean, the reason isn't so magnanimous as the official press release makes it out to be.  The decision was business motivated, either to get better terms, or to make a sale appeal to some ownership group who would move the Orioles to drive up the price, or simply just to not have the sale saddled by a long term commitment if it happens before a new lease is finalized.

The Raven's literally gave a "verbal handjob" to Hogan earlier in the year. As someone else mentioned it's a bi-partisan part of the political game.

“We thank the Board of Public Works and Governor Hogan for supporting this agreement. We are excited that M&T Bank stadium will be home to the Ravens for at least the next 15 seasons,” said Sashi Brown, President, Baltimore Ravens. “

The more I see / hear from John Angelos the more I think I might flip two and three on your list. And it has nothing to do with his politics (I actually like the idea of him working in concert with the Mayor and Governor). I just don't  get the sense that he has the best interest of the baseball team at heart. It seems like owning the Orioles is just a means to an end for him.

Was there anything unusually political in the statement? I share the pessimism about John that’s expressed in this thread, but like HakunaSakata pointed out about the Ravens, the comments related to the governor and revitalization seem like boilerplate stuff that’d be similar in most statements from most teams.

I would make #3 the #1 in my list, because I think it would solve 90% of this franchise's problem.  For starters, a legitimate owner is going to sign a long term lease in Camden Yards.  Heck, Angelos looks like he is going to sign it w/ a $600 million bribe I mean improvements.  I'm sure none of that will be spent on management "fees".  Any legitimate owner would already be pushing his GM to sign 2 future cornerstones like Adley and Gunnar to extensions.

From a political standpoint, there is zero chance the O’s don’t sign the long term lease.  Moore is a chosen one who some envision as a next star within the Democrat party.  Losing the O’s in the first year of his governorship after replacing the Stadium Authority head who locked in the Ravens, effectively ends any chances for re-election, much less any higher aspirations.  You can already see in the Sun article, the establishment threw a shot across JA’s bow.

JA is no dummy even if he is detestable.  He knows he has leverage and the $600M in improvements is a sure thing no matter what deal he signs.  He’ll negotiate some sweetheart deal and sell the team within 3 years.  I suspect Moore’s plant in the SA is tight with JA or his friends and is going to make a terrible deal for the state but who cares the O’s will stay for 10 years to hedge his ability to sell the team.

Louis and the lawsuit are the wildcard here.  I don’t think it passes the smell test.  It seems a little too contrived for me.  I think it’s a distraction and maybe something for JA to use in the negotiations.  I can’t think of a single motivation to make salacious  arguments against your mother and brother while your father is still alive and your greatest asset is at an extremely pivotal point in terms of it near and long term valuation prospects.

While the above feels perfectly logical, maybe LA is certifiable, JA is a complete self-indulgent prick, GA is a gold diggger, PA is Howard Hughes, Wes Moore is Martin O’Malley part duex, and the new Stadium Authority heed is a political hack.  Wait this paragraph makes much more sense.  Like I said, zero chance this works out.

    • I think there is a better term than "angry" to describe some of the O's. Anger seldom results in anything positive. Now, playing with attitude is another thing. GH is certainly the "King" of attitude on this team, no one is going to beat him. I believe there are several position players that show attitude in different ways. Pitchers?? SP throw 90 or so pitches. They can't afford to display emotions or they would be worn out much earlier. They also can't afford to have the "deer in the headlights" look. Of the O's starters, I believe CP is in that world at present. It's mainly an experience and growth thing.  GR, IMO, has approved significantly in that department over the last year.
    • On close examination of Kjerstad today (July 7), I hope he is not part of any trade package. This kid is a bull, with power potential that is off the charts.  He runs surprisingly well and that throw to the plate from left was very impressive, if a bit high. I can see him planted in left field for a long time, perhaps in a platoon with Hays the rest of the year, but eventually full time if he proves able to hit southpaws.
    • I like this idea better, but I am curious to what it would take to secure Mason Miller.
    • I totally get it.  It’s a huge risk vs. reward situation, but getting someone like him (if he’s still strong) or Skubal could make a major difference come October for you guys over the next three seasons.
    • IMHO it's not about whether Crochet is an "opener" or a reliever, it's the innings.  He's never thrown more than 65 innings (at college in 2019) in his entire college or pro career and stands at 105.1 today.  Let that sink in.  On top of that, there is Crochet's TJ surgery, where he missed all of 2022 and had multiple stints on the IL in 2023 as he was recovering, tossing a total of 25 IP. Does any of this mean he cannot throw double (130 IP) or triple (195 IP) his prior max?  No one can say for certain, but I'd think any reasonable person would agree that, at the very least, it's a far riskier proposition for someone like Crochet than a pitcher who has been a starter and has thrown 150+ IP before.  So, to recap: The most innings he's ever thrown was 65 IP in college (2019) After throwing 54 innings of relief for the White Sox in 2021, he missed all of 2022 with Tommy John surgery He followed up in 2023 by throwing a total of 25 innings of relief, as he dealt with a couple of IL stints recovering from TJ His first ever pro start came this season and he's been dynamite through 105.1 IP Elias and Sig are well aware of the risks and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
    • Gunnar doing a good job of hitting the ball to all fields.
    • Tell me the cost and I would probably sign up. What about you Qauntrill, Scherzer and Yates and you got to keep all top 4 prospects?
