This is a Mike Elias problem. Hes got 17,000 MLB 3rd basemen, shortstops and 2nd basemen and a top prospect SS in the minors. What is he doing? I dont know. Ask Mike.

I trust Mike Elias over Cal in talent evaluation.  Yes, Cal is a HOF SS, that doesn't mean he is a HOF talent evaluator.

True, but I'd like to know what the hell the actual plan is for the infield.

Put Mateo in center if Mullins cant hit any better than he has been, or bench Santander.

Seems to me that Mateo is continuing to improve and is one of the best in the game now on defense. It makes no sense to me to move Gunnar there with Holliday on the way. It also makes no sense to me to move your best shortstop to any other position. I don't remember anyone suggesting Belanger go to center, but of course everyone didn't have a platform for those kind of ideas back then.

The right move is to trade him. He has trade value and we have quality prospects ready to replace his roster spot.

And for now, he’s hitting.  And Gunnar isn’t.

Let’s not blame Hendersons offensive struggles on moving back and forth.   He’s trying to hit the ball 600 feet.   His job, this year is to play SS and 3B.   He was insurance at SS if we got the 500 OPS version of Mateo. So, we should have a good problem once Gunnar relaxes at the plate and just tries to hit the ball hard somewhere.

No knock on Cal but we just have the roster we have. It’s pretty obvious the SS position is going Mateo -> Holliday. 3B is just as important to us this season.
