Wednesday, June 28: Orioles vs Reds, series deciding game

I've never been madder after a 4-run inning.

Should have been a 5-run inning without this garbage thought that you run on contact with the infield in and less than two outs.

It's frustrating because I know this is some ridiculous statnerd thing.

It's like those idiot stat nerds that tell Harbaugh he has .000056% better chance of winning the game if he goes for two early in a game.

There are places for the stat nerds to help put players in the best position and then there are times they should be ignored.

Hyde and his coaches need to stand up and play the game right.

I have heard a few posters who have advocated for replacing both he and Hicks right now despite the fact that they are hitting.

Well if true, that's silly. O'Hearn clearly has a role on this team and Hicks at worse will be a good 4th outfielder.

The Orioles have a sh-t pitcher on teh mound and have already put up 4 rund and you are going on contact with the infielders n the grass?

Just freakin' garbage baseball. I don't care what stupid research the Orioles think they've done, but they tell the stat nerds to pound sand and play the game right!

You do not run in this situation.

Totally agree.

Or maybe Gunnar just made a bad decision.

See, this is what happens when you let computer give you odds on things and decide it's the best call. It doesn't take into consideration how many pitches the pitcher has in an inning. How hard the contact is. Who is up next!

You just don't run.

Plus, you risk an injury on the slide.

I’m almost always in favor of putting pressure on the D and making them make a play.  But with that said I don’t like it in the first inning and you bring up a good point on potential injury.

Nothing makes a high scoring baseball game more exciting than an in game interview with an 80 year old woman.

I'm trying my hardest to ignore this broadcast that is going to try and do everything it can to not talk about the actual game on the field!

    • I see a playoff team with maybe the same expectations the 2023 team had going into the season. Possibly being picked to finish between 2nd and 4th in our division.     SP - Eflin, Grayson, Big Al, Kremer, Povich McDermott in AAA. Bradish and Means back in the 2nd half????  Wells too? RP - Bautista, Cano, Dominguez, Soto, Coloumbe, Webb, Perez, Akin 1B - Mountcastle DH - O’Hearn 2B - Holliday 3B - Westburg SS - Gunnar C - Adley LF - Cowser CF - Mullins RF - Kjerstad Bench - Mateo, Urias, backup C, RH OF or Mayo Basallo up mid season This is us baby.  We are who we are.  The only way to get experience is to actually get experience. Sorry to Brad Fuller maybe our “vet” can be a former player as hitting coach.  Carlos Beltran or Bonds.
    • I would love to sign any hitters who have actually experienced postseason success and wins.....maybe even championships.  Gurriel for KC has been a part of a lot of postseason wins and having veterans on the team like that are valuable.  I saw somewhere the KC guys said they really benefitted from having Gurriel, Pham, Sal Perez, and others who have been there and done that.  Continuing to rely on young players with nothing but zeroes on their postseason resumes isn't helpful.   I heard Francona is going to manage the Reds.  Great move for them.  I would have loved to have him, given he is a Hall of Famer with actual WS championships and a ton of October success.
    • Geordie Greep just dropped The New Sound. So that.
    • Crazy to lose to the same city in all three sports with two to be considered monumental upsets. I believe the Knicks were actually favored against the Bullets, but not sure as it was before I was born.
    • That entire series very much hurt. Benitez was awful. He hung a slider to Grissom (the eventual ALCS MVP) allowing a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th of game 2. The squeeze play you mentioned that I haven't been convinced wasn't foul in game 3. Game 4 had two of their guys score on the same wild pitch where it looked like David Justice blocked Lenny Webster after scoring the first of those two runs. And then of course, the last hanging slider from Armando to Tony Fernandez that proved to be the game winner in game 6. Just painful all around.
    • More attendance than the playoff games.
    • Just Burnes and Soto for me. That’s all. 🤪
