It's kind of funny actually, how big the variances are

Orioles +49  62-38

Cubs +41  48-51

Cursory look

Orioles - 10 wins by 5 runs or more, 21 losses by 3 runs or less

Cubs - 23 wins by 5 runs or more, 31 losses by 3 runs or less

The Oriole's stats do not support their record.

The Orioles runs scored and allowed suggest that their true talent in a sequencing and leverage-neutral context would be maybe seven games worse, and that it's unlikely that they'll continue to exceeded their Pythag indefinitely. But that doesn't mean they are predestined to regress at any moment.

One of the most infallible ways to judge a baseball player, is that they gotta know their cliches.

I mean you can tell who has studied them, who knows them.

I mean last nights loss was a good time to break out this one:

"We gotta play it one day at a time"
