I already said the other day that they will 99% make the playoffs.  My post heading was WILL NOT win the WS, and MAY NOT make the playoffs.  And that was  a month ago when I made it.  Obviously barring a complete collapse they are making the playoffs.

WILL NOT and MAY NOT are 2 very different things.  I also said if they don't do either?  That is ok.  This has been a great experience for them heading into next year.

There wasn't a realistic scenario a month ago where they weren't going to make the playoffs, but let me just say that if they don't make the World Series, it's a black mark, it's not OK, under any circumstances.  If they missed the playoffs I'd be firing more than the manager. They've been the best team in the AL for quite a while now. This isn't part of the "process". Their window is open. They are standing on the ledge. If they don't crawl through the window, that's a failure flat-out and failing is what they're doing now. 4 losses in a row is not acceptable, to lose 4 in a row when you need those games for a division title is a firing offense, sorry, it's a choke, it's not a learning experience.

Probably no World Series team has ever lost 4 in a row, right? You think Hyde makes it past this weekend?

I think we can all agree that a truly great team like, say, the 1969 Orioles, would never ever lose four important games in a row.

Yes, that was quite a struggle.  Only squeaked in with 14 games to play (we clinched before today’s game was over).

So glad they figured out a way to make a playoffs

Sometimes I wonder about the IQ level of some of the people on this website.   Heck forget that I often wonder about the IQ level of the human race in general.

I guess it is the same people who said they didn't want Nelson Cruz signed for $14 M back in 2014.  Which I said was the best signing they could ever make at the time.

Many of you said that was idiotic.

Enough said.

First, I made the OP 45 days ago.

Secondly, I already said they would make the playoffs last week.

Third, I said in the OP headline WILL NOT win the WS and MAY NOT make the playoffs.

For anyone with a brain cell?  WILL and MAY have completely different meanings.

I still don't think they have the pitching to win the WS, but I am VERY happy that they are in the playoffs.

Ask my wife.  :)

    • They are wasting way because they are major league ready players who are not on a major league team. They are wasting away because we can’t use them. We don’t have a place for them, but instead of trading them, we are letting them languish. It is silly not to find a trade partner for them. If the value is low, well, the value is low, and you get what you can. I was talking about neither Holliday nor Mayo, and I’m sorry I wasn’t clear enough. but you mentioned Stowers and Norby and you mentioned it exactly the problem that exists they’re not here because we don’t have room for them. I am one of the very few voices who wants mayo to remain where he is unless he develops worthwhile defense, although I would be happy to trade him.
    • Extended forecasts in Maryland are a fool's errand.  💦💨💭🌞 Show up, and pray!
    • I prefer he has to borrow a glove if he is forced into playing defense at all.
    • I think we’ve talked about this, but I would love to replace James McCann with Jonah Heim. Jonah Hime is a gold glove winner and even though he’s having a really bad offensive year compared to last year, he’s worlds better than McCann and would make it much easier to rest Adley more often. He has already been mentioned as a non-tender candidate because he’s apparently expecting a significant raise despite his mediocre season. Lowe might be as well, but it’s probably doubtful that they would move him now. The Rangers, as current champs, are going to take a huge PR hit if they trade anybody but their departing free agents. Half of their top 20 prospects are pitchers, but most have only 40-45 future values. All of their outfielders are scuffling right now, but they are all really good so I doubt they would make any outfield trades, and just hope for some improvement from their guys. I would love to get Robertson and Yates, and I wouldn’t mind Scherzer either. But we don’t have anybody they really need.
    • I have a ton of faith in the FO, but the way the poll was worded, had to cast my vote a little lower.   We won't know for years - if ever - which offers were made but rejected. Grayson has given everything I was hoping for from Bradish.  Burnes has exceeded the hype.  So, we need to replace the #3/#4 pitcher we expected Grayson to be.  Suarez is still a great surprise.  Kremer, in my mind, is trending upward.  A solid #3 would be thrilling. On the reliever front, one solid (non-elite) leverage-type reliever can push Tate/Baker/Akin back to Tidewater and make the whole BP look better.  And Coloumbe returns for the push. I guess I'm saying we don't need an ace and a closer, but a #3 and a 7th inning specialist.  Should be doable.
    • Faith.  I hope he trades all of the prospects that are clearly blocked, and get some players we can use.
    • Hays has certainly hit a lot better lately but he is just feasting on LHP’s. His wRC+ against RHP’s is 73, so he should not be taking any AB’s away against RHP’s from Cowser (or Mullins/Kjerstad/Santander assuming they are all healthy).  So much has been made about Cowser’s offense (for good reason) that it seems like the fact that he’s been the best defensive player on the team on a per game basis gets lost. With his defense and base running value, he doesn’t even have to be a great hitter to be valuable, like Kjerstad. His floor is closer to Mullins, yet it seems like he’s judged very differently. Put another way, if Mullins had Cowser’s overall offensive line right now, with his exit velo’s and quality of contact, nobody would be calling for him to lose playing time. It just seems odd that a rookie that has been so good defensively and has so many good offensive qualities (average exit velocity, chase rate, barrel %) is getting so much heat right now. He definitely does need to be better with RISP and in high leverage situations, and shouldn’t get an unlimited leash, but he’s not going to get better unless he keeps getting chances to work things out. And if he does work things out (as we saw in April) or even can replicate his season line to date the rest of the way, he’s likely the most valuable OF’er on the team.
