Lopez shouldn't be given any high leverage situations right now. Give the Orioles' pitching coaches time to work with him first. I don't know why Hyde insists on throwing reclamation projects into the fire right away.

These guys need to do their jobs.  And that's what being a baseball relief pitcher is...I'm sure they'd all like to come into a clean inning. But they also know they might inherit a tough situation.  These guys don't get to pick and choose what leverage situations they get to enter into and Hyde has to work with what he's got in regards to availability.

Lopez is a veteran.  He's been in high leverage situations before, he'll be in high leverage situations again...it's not his first rodeo.

This board is weird.  One second they want to throw youngsters to the wolves and then the next minute people want to baby veterans who might be too fragile for a high leverage situation because they might be too fragile for a high leverage situation.

Lopez has been bad all year. Sure he’s a vet but he’s not good.

Who do we trust more right now Krehbiel or Lopez?

Neither really in 8th or 9th … so the real issue is how often do our starters get us in the situation Hyde was in..where we have no better other options.
My working BP trust list (right now and recently) 3 tiers of trust ..  high, pretty good, not too high

1/2  Cano, Coulombe

3/4/5/6 Webb, Perez , Fuji , Hall

7/8 Krehbiel, Lopez

Josh Hader would have looked so good lol

Lol yeah, if either of them are throwing in the 8th or 9th, we're in big trouble. I hope Fuji can continue the streak he's on, his stats over the last 7 games are really nice

For me, Perez is working his way up the list.  He’s looked really good for nearly two months, and remember, he was a go-to 8th inning guy last year.  If his stuff is working, he can handle the pressure.

There is no "they" or like-minded set of "people." Well, maybe on a few issues, like Brooks, Earl, Cito, Lew Ford and John Angelos.

Otherwise, there are lots of posters with lots of opinions about (among other things) how the Orioles can best position themselves to win more games. Those opinions often are all over the place. That's what makes it fun (for me, anyway).

It also makes it important to avoid name-calling and dismissal of the opinions of those we think--or even know--don't know what they're talking about. My opinion, anyway. You're all free to disagree.

Not quite all year. The first month of the season he started off on a roll.

13 G; 0.00 ERA; 0.583 WHIP; 10.0 K/BB; 2 saves

Many O's fans (here an more broadly) were absolutely saying that we could use a pitcher like that and Elias was bad for having dealt him.

Jorge lopez is not the answer at the back of the bullpen

I almost wonder if they shouldn't throw flaherty in the closer role

Flaherty?????? You must be nuts. The guy is way too hittable.

We don't have an answer for closer right now. The league seems to have figured out Cano (especially lefties). If I had to pick one I'd pick Fuji right but that could change any second.

    • Vlad Jr and Burnes....my priorities. Then you can trade Mayo for MMiller.
    • I'm certainly not "fixated" on this. The real issue is the budget. How high will Rubenstein be willing to grow the payroll?
    • It will be retired with the first big $$ free agent or extension signed under Rubenstein.
    • I have no idea what you are arguing.
    • Cool, nice work there.   So? Are we owed a large market? Does DC not deserve their own team? Should the fans of Baltimore just become Redskins fans and not tried to get their own team when the Colts left?  (sorry to bring up football again but come on, that fits). I laid it all out a couple months ago, MLB has more teams bringing home the hunk of metal than other sports since 2000.  The competitive balance is fine.  It's harder?  Yea?  OK it's harder.
    • The Cowboys have an owner with deep pockets. I agree 100% … There is some cap manipulation that happens. At the end of the day they have a $255 million limit they are required to operate under. The Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc can decide each year how much they want to add to the luxury tax fund as opposed to not being able to fit a potential move under the cap. Here are the 2024 payrolls for the NFL and MLB   https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2024/04/03/mlb-team-payrolls-2024-highest-lowest-mets/73139425007/ Highest $305 million vs $60 million  https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/_/year/2024/sort/cap_maximum_space Highest $259.5 million vs $217 million these numbers will likely get tighter once they make additions before the trade deadline.  If you can’t see the difference I’m just wasting my time. The biggest driving force in MLB beyond the ability of some to spend lavishly is the tv markets. The club controls so much of their tv revenue that it’s an unfair game. The moved that created the Orioles didn’t have much of an effect on the Senators tv market which was likely nonexistent then. Plus MLB is allowing contract manipulation like Othani’s contract. Instead of $700 divided by length 10 years, Somehow he only counts as like $46 million which is laughable. Plus they are paying $85 million in luxury tax fees in 2024.    The Orioles were a large market team when the Expos moved to DC. They could afford to spend with the Yankees, Red Sox , and Blue Jays. Could the Orioles afford to pay $85 million in luxury tax fees? Could the Yankees? I know the answer to both.  What grounds ? Who cares ? The impact was astronomical …It made it very difficult to compete in the AL East without tank a thon! It split their tv market in half. Obviously MLB papered over that long enough to get an agreement done.    They turned a large market team into 2 small/mid market teams. The Orioles and Nationals payrolls combined place them only 11th in baseball. Obviously they could afford to spend more. But it’s doubtful either will ever be top 10 for more than a season  or two as they try to hang onto a window.
