Cease vs everyone else

It shouldn’t really change the logic though. It’s still the same game, physically. Obviously K’s are way up in recent years but there’s no reason why a strikeout should be worth more or less now than it was in the ‘90s.

Strikeouts are fascist.

Should be an interesting next few days, it's getting hot & crow is in the oven.

Thanks for the info but how does someone who knows the Povich camp get insider trade info unless Povich is involved in the negotiations/trade.?

Seems like Getz is asking for too much. He wanted 5 prospects from the Reds (allegedly) and three of them. Lowder, Arroyo, and Phillips are all top 70 prospects.

Edit for perspective. The Reds have a top farm system and CWS asked for their 2, 3, and 4th-ranked prospects. That's Cowser, Kjerstad, and Mayo for us.

Getz has to snap back to reality. Hopefully the Reds GM laughed and hung up.

No one…because no one said Povich is definitely being dealt. This is something he is making up in his own mind.

Got it.

Crow aside, between Povich and McDermott, if we had to part with one, who would everyone choose to keep? The more I see of McDermott, the more I think he could be a number 3 starter. I think trading him for two years of cease would hurt badly.

I'm keeping Povich.  McD may have the higher floor and Povich may flame out early.  But I'm going for the upside hoping Povich harnesses some consistent command.

I’m dealing Povich first and it’s not even a decision for me.

Povich MAY have a higher ceiling but I don’t think it’s that much higher and the floor (especially as a starter) is lower imo.

Yes.  Frobby is a great ambassador for OH but I’m hoping there’s a WhiteSoxSportsGuy to get under his skin over there. LOL

No need, @Sports Guy himself is over there now rumbling away with their top posters. Quite an entertaining 10 pages I just caught up on, most people here can take a guess how it’s going 😂

Good people over there thus far.

Some of them seem to think Joey Ortiz is a nothing prospect because he’s small and older but overall, most of them seem relatively grounded.

A few have a belief that Cease should be treated as if he’s a definitive frontline starter.

I agree. I do enjoy the few who have apparently taken it personally that Elias hasn’t forced a deal by this point, whatever the cost, and they now are hoping for the downfall of our entire organization because of it. Definitely a minority of the comments but some of them seem really pissed off about it.

    • It has been clear that there is a faction of this board and the Os fan base in general that have an over the top dislike for McKenna.
    • I’m sure it’s Spakman’s remark that set me off: “Literally been praying every single second to the God of my choice that someone takes him away from the Orioles organization.”  But just generally, I don’t hope that our players get claimed when they’re DFA.   When you say that, you’re saying that having the player in the organization is worse than not having him.  I don’t buy it.  I also didn’t like the remarks (in previous threads, not this one) suggesting that McKenna misjudging a fly ball was due to some character flaw on his part.
    • A big part of seeing more pitches is that he is whiffing or fouling off very hittable pitches in the middle of the zone.  As I added to an earlier post, he is getting himself into a ton of two strike counts - about 60% of his plate appearances.
    • Has anyone seen any news about how Tyler is progressing?
    • I agree that he’s been pretty bad in those high leverage situations. In Fangraphs clutch metric, he’s by far the worst hitter in the league. The difference between him and 2nd place (McNeil) is the same as the difference between McNeil and 55th place. He has cut down on his K rate the past few weeks and has hit into some bad luck, but it definitely looks like he’s overthinking in some of these higher leverage situations. I’d say his AB’s are pretty good other than that, but they’ve been pretty poor in those more important situations.
    • How far away from the stadium are you willing to go?
    • A few of us were arguing in the offseason this team needed an extra outfielder, mainly a centerfielder, in case Mullins or someone else struggled or got hurt again like last season.   Gunnar, Adley and Westburg have settled in nicely, but it appears we can't expect all the young guys to adjust so well.  Cowser was great for awhile but has shown himself to have some large growing pains the past few weeks.  Meanwhile, the veterans in the outfield have all had their struggles.  Aaron Hicks played unexpectedly well last season, and a veteran presence out there in lieu of Mullins slumping badly is maybe what this team needs.  Hopefully that's all this team needs out there this season.
