Why use Kimbrel for the 9th? Why not use Irvin? He’s a starter, for Pete’s sake and can go another inning easily. This is not rhetorical. Why bring in Kimbrel for the ninth?

And if someone says “because he’s our closer,” I’m going to be mightily unhappy.

Kimbrel has had 3 great outings in a row.  He has not allowed a run in 14 of his 19 outings this year.   He allowed one run in 3 others.   So he's only given up 2+ runs twice all season.

Not using him would be managing scared, not managing to win.   You have to use the guys on the roster.

The long stretch without a day off is all the more reason to leave Irvin in IMO, use less relievers whenever possible, not more.
