My introduction to Michael Shannon was his portrayal of Kim Fowley (their creepy manager)  in the Runaways movie. Since then, I’ve seen him in Boardwalk Empire and the George Jones mini-series. He’s even done a tour of REM’s Murmur album and Chronic Town EP with some of the REM guys joining him onstage.

Kind of a tangent, but happy that my interest in Joan led me to his acting. One of the first songs I learned on electric guitar was her I Love Rock and Roll and I’ve become friends with one of the original Heartbreakers, ie. Eric Ambel (Del Lords, Yahoos, etc.).

I kinda prefer the version from the Arrows.

Speaking of REM - the band was good friends with Dale Murphy in Atlanta.  I thought that was a funny  friendship

And Buck and Mills have The Baseball Project, which have about four albums of baseball related songs.

I got to introduce my kids (in our family band) to Mills in late ‘23 when we played in Athens. And I got to share a stage with him in a tribute to Big Star’s 3rd album when they played it in NC six years ago.

That's awesome.   Life's Rich Pageant was their best album,  by the way.
