I don't see how Hays is an everyday player. Marsh hits over .800 vs RHP, he is just unplayable vs LHP.

I think it was a good need-for-need trade. Dominguez has not had the best year but he has great stuff and closing experience. If he is the only arm we get I will be disappointed but I can see him bringing value. I am bummed that we DFA'd Nittoli.

Meanwhile, our 5th OF now has the ability to play CF while opening up opportunities for Kjerstad and Cowser to face LHP.

I think Marsh moves to CF and Hays takes over LF.

Honestly get Pache was stupid …. Especially if Philly isn’t paying his salary. It’s dumping $400,000 in the trash if you DFA him. He can’t hit and you have an offensively challenged team that can’t afford someone worse than the guy you traded.

He makes 760K a year so two months of that is about 255K.

I give it a B.

Pache is a throwaway piece defensive specialist, but the positive parts of the trade are pretty good: Domínguez could be a decent bullpen arm, and Austin Hays, though I appreciate his contributions and wish him well, is honestly one of the members of the old guard that we should be letting go of to clear space for up and coming prospects.

So a good addition and a good subtraction make this a better than average trade IMO.

Yeah … we are just past the halfway point so it’s closer to $350 but who cares l..he sucks and is DFA fodder.

Tuesday is the 2/3 point of the season - 59 games left

I wonder if this was just a trade of opportunity? Not something Elias expected to do but which presented itself because the Philadelphia GM was so high on Hays?

Subtracting Hayes opened a spot for HK, and adding Dominguez filled a spot in the pen.

I don’t think Pache was a worthwhile addition, he doesn’t steal bases and his offense is even worse than McKenna’s plus he cost a roster spot.

The value of the trade will be determined, not just by how well Dominguez does, but how effectively the-slightly- improved roster flexibility is utilized.

It’s also the roster spot. Rather Keep Nitolli.

I did not like that move. They could have optioned Baker and DFA'd Krook or one of the other guys. I liked what I saw of Nittoli and I think losing him was a mistake but somewhat separate from the trade.

Anyone who’s paid attention over the years knows how much I liked Hays.  I still think the deal made sense.  We need another solid bullpen arm more than we needed an outfielder who was getting 1-2 starts a week.

I do worry that our lineup is getting a little imbalanced with all the lefties.

If only we had a RHB top 10 MLB ready prospect a phone call away in Norfolk.

He doesn’t play outfield.

True. I think plan A will be to see how Kjerstad does. He hit LHP identically to RHP in the minors. He could end up outperforming what Hays was giving us vs LHP.

Plan B could be Westburg in the OF vs LHP in the Zobrist super sub role. I feel he could handle it.

It is interesting to see Elias and Dombrowski partner.    I think both Hays and Seranthony are in their new respective Clubs top 10 bats or arms.

Much of the postseason is 9 bats and 7 arms against each other.

2023 postseason - in 13 games the Phillies gave 14 total plate appearances to their reserves (Pache was the 10th guy with 10 out of 14 on a short side platoon).

Are we playing Jorge Mateo or Jackson Holliday?     Ryan or Coby Mayo?     Cedric Mullins or Heston Kjerstad?    Hays probably wasn't in the top 12 options.

Can I grade the trade after Austin Hays plays so well he lines himself up to win Arb again at a big number and not get pinch hit for against Seranthony Dominguez in the fifth inning of World Series Game 7?
