This is maybe more likely wear and tear after a season of starting, but certainly anecdotally it makes you wonder if the brief relief role for a long-time starter had anything to do with it, as we watch the Orioles decide what if anything to do with Grayson.

 

I'm not sure if going from reliever to starter has much to do with this re: Cortes. He's been a starter for the Yankees for nearly 4 full years now. 

Last year he did have rotator cuff strain(s). But this is probably just the curse of being a starting pitcher in MLB. The arm injury wraith comes for everybody except a very rare few.

There's talk it'll be Marcus Stroman who was recently relegated to a bullpen role.
