It's about as well thought out as anything else around here lately.
If he were sitting in the dugout next season, and the team lost 2 games 3-2 in one week, half the board would be calling for Britton's head.
The Mets were the #3 wild card who didn't clinch a playoff spot until Game 161. They won 89 games, one fewer than the "upstart" Rangers last year. So why don't they count as a possible upstart? Payroll? Last year's Rangers had a pretty big payroll. And the Mets were 75-87 in 2023.
The two upstarts Detroit and KC out. No 2023 Texas Rangers this year. Last year was really an anomaly and the Orioles were on the receiving end.
On the other hand, I think Detroit would be tougher on the NYY. Cleveland just can't hit. They lucked into a GS today against Skubal or they would have lost.
I say we try 5 hitting coaches. One for left-handed batters, one for right-handed batters, one for switch hitters, one for bunting, and one for hitting behind the runner. I am, of course, not serious - but we if we did it we could lead the majors in hitting coaches. 🤣
