That's the whole idea. Three centerfield caliber defensive players in the outfield to cover as much ground as possible.

The A's a bunch of years ago had 3 CF types. Dwayne Murphy played CF, Tony Armas right and a young guy named Rickey Henderson became maybe the best LFer ever defensively. Defense is never wasted, but your point is fair, Pie just needs to figure it out.
