Sosa to retire, calmly wait for induction

Please remind me of the evidence that Sosa used PEDs. Oh, that's right, there isn't any.

Nothing except people in no position to know one way or the other speculating. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but punishing people based on a bunch of nothing is a slippery slope I want no part of.

Orioles/Sosa trivia = The first time Sammy ever has a multiple homer game in the big leagues was the final Opening Day at Memorial Stadium in 1991.

He was thereafter ejected.

I don't have a HOF vote. I don't know if he did or not, most people including writers, don't know. But the perception is that he did and I think that will hurt him. Whether that is fair or not is open for debate in another thread soon to be posted, I'm sure.

My thinking is, if any of the players from the steroid era are to be considered for HOF induction, then any drug testing results will have to be made known, at least to the voting bodies, to make a final determination.

I say that because at least now, this is as big a bar to getting in as betting on Baseball and it will be a final determination to induction.

I dont think you will see either of them in the HOF. Writers have long memories and those who used roids will not be getting in any time soon!

The funny thing about sosa is that he has no connection to steroids, hes been lumped with mcgwire by the media witch hunt.

Personally, I'm pretty indifferent about Sosa getting into the Hall, but I found this interesting with regards to Sosa's career numbers....

In the 4 years span from 1998-2001, Sosa played 27% of his career games (637 of 2354). During that span, he accumulated 40% of his career home runs (243 of 609) and 36% of his RBI (597 of 1667).

Any idea if there are other HoF players with a high percentage of their career stats in such a short time span?

I'm with MWeb on this one. I have no problems with "steroid guys" getting into the Hall, but I'm not sure Sosa's career numbers would get him in anyway.

Bonds and Clemens clearly do.

Only player to hit 60 hrs three times? 609 hrs!
