Seeing as the other thread is about the whole draft, let's just keep this to who the Orioles got and give the scouting reports(Markpolis?) for each player.

So far.....

Round 1: Billy Rowell

Here is what rotoworld said.

The Orioles selected 3B Billy Rowell with the ninth overall pick in the 2006 draft.

A high school shortstop who will probably move to third base in the pros, Rowell is a left-handed hitter with huge power potential. He should be ready to step in when Melvin Mora's next contract extension expires

This is an excellent pick.

We haven't had a third base prospect in such a long time.

You'd have to think this definitely means that Snyder is staying behind the plate. That would also be good for us.

Great, young pick. I personally am thrilled!

It would be great to get a big-time power prospect in this organazation again. I mean we have been really thin on hitters recently and the few god hitters we do have are more contact hitters instead of power hitters. The only Orioles recently to show big power in the minors was Young and he was never considered a big-time prospect for the Orioles. Hopefully Rowell can be signed quickly and we can see what he can do at Bluefield or Aberdeen later this summer.

From Callis on Beato:

We ranked Beato as the No. 13 prospect on our Top 200 and he'd likely go in the second half of the first round if he re-entered the draft. He had Tommy John surgery during his junior season at Brooklyn's Xavieran High, and the Mets took him in the 17th round last year as a draft-and-follow.

That proved to be an astute decision, as he has shown three plus pitches at times this spring. Beato has a hard sinker that sits around 90 mph and touches 96. He also has a sharp 84-85 mph slider and a promising changeup. He has a strong build at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, and his biggest need is to improve his mechanics and, by extension, his command. At age 19, he has plenty of time to figure that out.

Sorry got here a little late. Here is BA's take on Beato:

"One of the best arms in the draft. Here is BA's take:

" Beato was considered an attractive, projectable pitcher as a high school underclassman at Xaverian High in Brooklyn, then had Tommy John surgery in April 2004. He returned for his senior season and showed enough to persuade the Mets to take a flier, drafting him in the 17th round last year as a draft-and-follow. They were expected to sign him, and he could command as much as $1 million. He lacks polish but flashes mid-90s heat from a clean, quick arm action. On scout day at St. Petersburg Junior College, he asked to run the 60-yard-dash and turned in a 6.7-second time, which speaks to his athletic ability. Beato features four pitches, with his fastball, slider and changeup all showing potential to be plus pitches. His fastball sits near 90 mph, touching 96. It has good, late life and sink. His 84-85 mph slider is a power pitch that he doesn't command consistently, but has sharp bite. He has feel for his changeup and will show a curveball that isn't the swing-and-miss offering his slider is. Beato has trouble repeating his delivery, which leads to erratic control. But his arm works well, and when he finds a comfortable, three-quarters slot, he can be dominant."

Great upside. IMO great pick. I like this pick better than Rowell.

2nd round pick, Ryan Adams, 3b, 5'11" 170lbs. Jesuit HS, Louisiana.

Here's the skinny:

"Adams led Jesuit High to the Louisiana 5-A championship in 2005, providing key homers in both the semifinals and finals. After leaving Jesuit last fall in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he returned to help the Blue Jays reach the semifinals this spring. Adams is an offensive middle infielder with outstanding hand-eye coordination, the result in part of playing hours of ping-pong. He uses the entire field, controls the strike zone and should have at least gap power. Currently a shortstop, Adams' range and arm fit better at second base. He has the hands and instincts to be an above-average defender at that position. His talent should make him a second- or third-round pick, but Adams' repeated hamstring problems may give teams pause. While he has added strength, he has lost speed (going from 6.7 to 6.9 seconds in the 60-yard dash) and flexibility, and he has been sidelined several times by his hamstring since his junior season. The injuries and the situation in Louisiana have made it difficult to get a good look at Adams this spring, and he can attend Louisiana State if he doesn't like his pro offer."

Interesting the Orioles announce him as a 3rd basemen. I guess they feel Rowell will start out as a SS.

I hope the Orioles know it will take 1 million or so to get BEato signed.

I want our picks signed ASAP. Be nice to get these guys in Aberdeen(Rowell probably starts at Bluefield though?)

According to Roch, both Rowell and Beato will start at Aberdeen.
