The Upcoming 'Tony-OH Expose' Timeline...

For those who need to catch up or figure out what is going on with Tony’s upcoming insider report regarding the O’s... it seems to have begun here:

I think Roch has finally cracked.

As much as I used to think that he was a shill, he's made several posts that certainly make me rethink that thought.

06-15-2010, 10:20 AM

He's never been a company shill and anyone covering this team for living has to be ready to crack or cracked already.

Hell, I'm scared that Paul's mental health will be effected by this club. :D

The sad part is, most people only know the half of it but this organization is in a lot of trouble.

Why is it we only know the half of it? If you told us what you know, you would have to shoot us?

06-15-2010, 12:53 PM

Part of it is figuring out a way to protect the sources. I would never, ever risk a person losing their job over something they told me. Saying that, there is not a lot of good news to tell throughout the entire organization. Most of things I've heard of late is very, very depressing and until I figured out a way to put all of this together, you'll have to be content with some nuggets here and there.

06-15-2010, 03:10 PM

Yep, no more passes. It does not appear MacPhail has the ability to manage a staff full of professionals that would enable him to multi-task.

It's June 15th and our First base situation (among other things) is a joke.

If Jackson is available for a run of the mill RHP I'm not sure why we were not in the process.

Jackson might be done, but he can't be worse than Atkins.

06-15-2010, 10:43 PM

A little nugget:

Angelos is not happy over the Gonzalez and Atkins signings. I've heard from two sources that MacPhail signed Gonzalez without giving him an MRI because he wanted to hurry before another team snatched him up.

Maybe that's why MacPhail is so deliberate. Quick decisions don't work out too well for him.

06-16-2010, 11:17 AM

I tell you what, apparently this thread has caught some attention because I'm getting more and more info on the goings on. I have a very interesting meeting setup very soon.

Should I use, "Hang on for the ride?" :D

Honestly, this stuff is more interesting than the on field product. ;)

I appreciate everyone being patient. As always, I have no ax to grind here, but if I find out stuff that needs to come out I will put it out.

06-17-2010, 10:31 AM

This is old news. I've talked about this rift before and most of it was cleared up when David Stockstill moved to another position. But clearly, Jordan feels better about drafting raw but projectable pitchers than he does hitters. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to stop him from drafting guys like Avery, Givens, and Hudson over the last few years when this organization is yet to develop these kinds of guys.

At the same time, I know there are guys showing up into the minor league system with certain "numbers" from scouting reports and are not these guys when evaluated. Guys who will "stick at short" or guys who can do "x" end up not being those guys.

I've gotten a lot of reports on guys and when I see them I'm like, "Huh?" Unfortunately, those are the same reaction as some of the player development guys as well.

There are cracks in the armor everywhere.

06-18-2010, 10:30 AM

I was not doing an expose on Joe Jordan and his drafts. I asked him about his current draft.

Unfortunately, bigger and more pressing issues have come up and I'm working on something, much, much bigger than this past draft. I still hope to get something out even if it's abbreviated.

Tony doesn't offer such comments without backing them up... it's about to get even more interesting.
Interesting or depressing?
What if I said both? ;)
Then I would believe you because I am very interested to see how depressed your news is going to make me. :D

06-18-2010, 12:23 PM

Don't make any reservations in high floor hotels then. :D
I can't speak for everybody, but I'm willing to wait for the full blown "tell all" rather than cranking out the abbreviated story. Either way, thanks in advance.

06-18-2010, 12:28 PM

The abbreviated "story" would be the draft story. The other one will not hold back and will not be abbreviated.

Talking about Adam Loewen.

06-18-2010, 12:38 PM

Fair enough, and had I heard that was the reason I probably would have understood more. But, from what I heard, he just wanted to go play for the Blue Jays.

Hell, maybe I'm wrong, the more I know about the goings on, the more it's hard to be too upset for anyone going to another organization.

How much longer before we get to read your expose?

06-18-2010, 12:45 PM

It's probably 1-2 two weeks away so don't hold your breath. ;)

06-18-2010, 12:57 PM

I have it on a very, very good source that Crowley has always preached aggressiveness. He's very good at helping guys out with their swings and players love him because he wants them to go after that good pitch. He's one of those guys that truly believes that first pitch strike might be the best pitch a batter sees. Although that fully could be right, the problem is it's not conducive to working starting pitchers or trying to get the pitcher out as quickly as possible. It's not a coincidence that so many opposing starting pitchers go deep into games against us.

Unfortunately, Crowley has been bullet proof for sometime with cover from the top, but he may be under some heat for the first time.

06-21-2010, 10:11 AM

Not surprising. I heard MacPahl only talked to Trembley one time over the last two months Trembley was managing and the conversation went something like this, "Tillman is going into the rotation, Meredith is gone." Click...

06-21-2010, 01:29 PM

The more I know, the more I want to just close this place down. I'm embarrassed, disgusted, and feel betrayed. When it all comes out, you guys can make your own opinions, but clearly I'm not a happy camper.

Discussing MASN...

I agree with this, however, couldn't they be using some of that money now by spending more in the draft, international market, scouting, player development, etc?

6-23-2010, 10:04 AM

This..... Unfortunately, very little extra has gone into these areas.

06-23-2010, 05:52 PM

...I'm confident that enough people know my background to know I know the difference between someone with an axe to grind and someone with real information. I may not be formally trained as a journalist, but my formal training certainly gives me a leg up and determining credibility.

Considering I've probably had conversations with 75% of the important people in the organization over the last 13 years, I'd say I might have some contacts and just might be worthy of people reading what I have to say.

You are free to have any opinion you like of me and my work, and I sure I have my detractors out there, but this is not a me vs the local press issue and there are a ton of factors as to why I have the info.

I'll say this right now though, if anyone in the Sun or national media want this story they can have it. All they need to do is contact me. I honestly don't want to write this thing but I feel obligated to get the truth out to the Orioles fans that still care.

06-24-2010, 11:34 AM

I'm going to go on record right now by saying I have not had one conversation with Dave (Trembley) since he was let go. I will not confirm or deny anyone else but I want to make sure Dave's name is not pulled through the mud. Let's squelch this right now.
So one might be able to credit some of your information as coming from DT, prior to his being fired. Perhaps you then followed up with secondary sources to confrim things later? The statment you will not confirm or deny anything else leaves that open IMO.

06-24-2010, 11:46 AM

I'm not going to get into any of this one way or the other honestly because if I do I'm going to open up a can of worms for when my piece does come out. All I will say is that Dave is not the kind of guy who is going to badmouth his employer to the media, and even though I got along with Dave, my relationship with Dave was media-manager.

Dave would tell me stuff about the team off to the side occasionally, but we never had a conversation about internal Orioles politics.

Tony, I wonder if you could answer this one question? If not, I certainly 100% understand.

Is our angst and anger at MacPhail justified, or is he just the target of our misguided anger?

06-24-2010, 12:47 PM

When the piece comes out you'll be able to make your own conclusion.

06-24-2010, 01:43 PM

...People pay attention to what we say and we get press credentials because we are professional in how we act and how we report things. I've been doing this for 15 years and over that time I've certainly made some mistakes along the way. At this point, I'm pretty sure I understand how to talk with sources and understand who might have an ax to grind and who might be willing to tell the truth. I also clearly understand about getting corroborating sources which is what I'm in the process of doing. Oh, an my pro-am butt will also give the Orioles an opportunity to respond before posting my piece...

Hulk Hogan is going to join NWA and become Hollywood Hogan!!!!!!:cussing:

I was gonna say that Tony was going to "turn heel" and suddenly give Firestone Sweet Chin Music when he's not looking.

I look forward to the expose...whatever it is.

I think Tony should do it in the form of a video :D

The vlog format would really let the emotions flow.

Oh the irony...

Either Tony's going to crash the board when he writes this piece, or it's going to be a giant letdown.
There's a lot of build-up to this and now the "timeline" adds to it.

I think instead we should turn down the heat on this until such time as Tony actually writes something.

    • Then go sign some AAA depth. There needs to be more identifying player’s roles and getting them into those situations sooner. McDermott is not a SP. If you still hold out hope, then extend some of his outings in the bullpen and see what he does. Either way, he needs to start moving into his ML role. Too old to still be in Norfolk.
    • That’s a pretty expensive shot in the dark. 3M, plus the rest of his salary last year, to see if a clearly finished player still has something as an insurance policy. I’d just move that money over to next year. You’d get much better use of it.    The problem is, I don’t think Elias thought it was a shot in the dark. And that makes me question his scouting at the ML level. The Orioles aren’t wealthy enough to throw 5M and see if there’s a 10% of fixing them. It’s either bad talent evaluation or bad asset management.
    • Did we ? You can’t possibly know that. Apparently, Elias got a player he thought he could fix.  Sorry but I just don’t think Rogers is as good as Irvin with his diminished stuff. I think he’s essentially a throw away. It would be wise to extend Eflin now while we still can. That way the resources used to get him can actually provide some long term value. Dominguez was an ok pickup…I don’t hate the deal. Problem is we needed a closer and he’s isn’t that. Thankfully Bautista is returning and will push him down the depth chart a slot or two. Soto ….Agreed, you bring him back if you can’t find a better option. I expect them to keep him. Otherwise, giving up Seth Johnson with our minors pitching quality shortage looks like a bad decision  Eloy didn’t cost much …. My general thought is pick ups like him didn’t matter beyond how you grade those acquisitions on a team that “Really Wanted to Win”. I question this because none of the guys that we picked up where having good seasons elsewhere. My thoughts are the same for Rivera …. He was a 563 OPS in Miami but got hot here and was a .948 here. His career OPS is .676 so his stint here is probably not repeatable. His projected arb number is 1.4 million so they likely keep him around as a piece and he’s young enough that maybe the change in scenery caused the light to come on.   By the way … here’s a piece from Roch about sone of these guys.   https://www.masnsports.com/blog/taking-another-look-at-orioles-roster-decisions
    • This has to count as one of the, if not the, biggest choke in ALCS history. Up 5-3 with two outs and no one on in the ninth, after you came back from 1-3 in the eight, with a chance to put a lock on the series.
    • Reverse jinx works again! 😆 🥳
    • Clay Holmes' agent could have used the season ending a good couple months ago. It was nice seeing a chink in Luke Weaver's armor.    Gunnar Henderson v. Anthony Volpe is kind of a centerpiece of Mike Elias mostly out-General Managing Brian Cashman the last half decade, but Luke Weaver v. Craig Kimbrel is not a good chapter and flipping those two guys might have changed the 2024 division.
    • I have all sorts of credit cards that charge interest because they provide me with tens of thousands of dollars in free interest. That said, I never pay interest, because I always pay off the balance each month.
