MIGUEL GONZALEZ O(vs. BLUE JAYS, 9/26)

IP:O 7

H:o. 5

R:O. 2

BB:. 1

SO:. 1

Pitches: 96 (70 Strikes, 26 Balls)

2012 ERA: 3.45

Gonzalez pitched 7 innings on 4 days' rest last night, and he arguably could have given up only 1 run if Chris Davis had not misplayed a 1-out single into a double.

Has the cumulative extra rest (6 days and 8 days respectively in between his 2 prior starts, plus 10 days' rest that he had between his August 20th and August 31st starts) that Gonzo Part II has been given by Showalter over the last month re-energized his arm ???

The game log shows he's missing fewer bats (KO's) as the season has worn on but I'm not arguing with the results. He's been a real find for us this year.

A 28 year-old pitcher that had never pitched in the majors ....... that was like finding a needle is a haystack !!!

Good observation. I suppose that we may have to just wait for another start (or 2 or 3 if we make the postseason) from him to see if the rest has re-energized his arm, at least partially. Maybe not enough to be as strikeout-effective as he was earlier in the season, but perhaps enough to give him enough juice to still be able to pitch and find a way to go between 6-8 innings, and give up 3 or fewer runs.
