Tillman

Makes a lot of sense, give Arrieta another day off and don't give Tillman too much time off. I also like an Eveland/Gonzalez mix on Friday; Eveland was clearly out of synch on Saturday but his stuff, IMO, is good enough to be a decent #5. It's too bad Hunter has been getting his chances all year long...

I am excited to see Tillman. Still need another starter but I think Tillman was the right call. Britton could be the guy for the last spot, but if I had to choose today who is more ready RIGHT now to start in the majors, I'd take Tillman over Britton.

I was hoping to see him pitch on Thursday when I attend, but it probably works out better for the rotation and keeps the pressure off him for his first ML start of the year which would have been in front of his home town crowd at the Big A.

Prediction: Chris Tillman comes up and dominates. Settles in as our #3 starter.

BTW, what jersey number do you think Chris will wear? The "Meat" now has #24, his old number.

Prediction: Tillman still has a straight, flat fastball that he can't locate on a consistent basis. Members of the OH who still think he can be a good pitcher cling to the fact that he has a good curveball. Whatever.

God I hope you're wrong. But there's a little voice inside my head that tells me your not.

Our pitchers just never seem to be able to turn a corner in the majors, I hope this goes differently but I feel it won't. Please lord, let me be wrong!

Will this go alongside the thread you started predicting Matusz would be our #1 starter by years end? http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/118142-Brian-Matusz-will-be-our-1-starter-by-year-s-end?highlight=matusz By the way, I was starting to buy in to that prediction as of June 2: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/118142-Brian-Matusz-will-be-our-1-starter-by-year-s-end?p=2780017#post2780017

That is all I see when Tillman pitches. Hopefully the increased velo will help, and maybe a little movement on those pitches! I think he is still going to nibble too much, which will elevate his pitch counts quick. I like they are starting him against the M's though. Smart move on a couple levels.

I was too. I think we all were. Pretty weird for Brian to look solid in 6 straight starts, only to fly off the handle again.

I am constantly amazed at the startling analysis I see here from the experts on Tillman re: his FB. Or his curve for that matter.....

Is the analysis of Matusz any different than that of Tillman? Because his mechanics are in disarray. He is one of the most technically unsound pitchers we have. People who make blanket statements about either of them without having any background in scouting or biomechanical analysis have no idea what they are talking about. Tillman has little movement on his FB but locates it much better than Matusz because he is at this point much more technically sound than Matusz. If you are still holding onto what you last saw from Tillman that is your right but certainly not very enlightened.

His increased velocity will help him, however, he will still have to locate. Verlander must locate his FB to be effective in the ML. The more success Tillman has at the ML level the less tendency he will have to pitch at the margins.

You are way off in your reading of my post. I was just ribbing Flacco because his "predictions" don't carry much weight after what he forecast about Matusz.

As to Tillman, I am cautiously optimistic that he will be an upgrade over what Matusz, Hunter and Arrieta have provided over the last 5 weeks or so. I've been following the threads where people have watched him pitch on MiLB TV and say he is looking much better, and Peterson has said he is ready. My biggest concern is that he hasn't been going real deep in games at Norfolk (5 out of his last 10 starts were under 6 IP and another 3 were exactly 6 IP) so he's probably going to be taxing our bullpen even if he limits the runs scored by the opposition.
