The Ranger announcers are saying that Tommy can hit 97 - 98 for 20 to 30 pitches, which is one reason why he was so effective in 2 to 4 inning stints coming out of the pen for them. But they also said that Tommy is resistant to pitch that way when he's starting, but that the O's have asked him to try and pitch with greater velocity and they'll see just how far he can go.

Very interesting stuff.

I'm gonna quote this one again. If this is really what the deal was tonight, no one should be surprised that Tommy got blown up in the 4th.

And, contrary to popular opinion at the moment, I'm personally not ready to bury Tommy just yet. This year's history shows that almost every guy we've thrown up our hands on has come back when needed badly, and contributed.
