I just can't see us putting together a long winning streak or going to the playoffs, let alone winning in the playoffs, until our pitching improves.

What cards does DD have left in his hand? He played Gausman. What's left? Wada? We will make a trade by the middle of July if the pitching stays this inconsistent.

We should not have let Saunders or Reynolds walk. They are ignored when we do well, but when we slump, it comes back up. Saunders has an ERA of slightly over 5, but he averages almost 6 innings per start. Buck would love to have one more starter put up those numbers for him right now. Our pitching is in shambles. Mark Reynolds is in one of his cold streaks, but he is still an average to above average starting infielder. With the Orioles' pitching and injury problems, we could really use those 2 players right now.

Even I (a huge Mark Reynolds fan) doesn't think losing him has had much of an impact. Signing Saunders should have been the minimum. We really needed to sign someone better.

You mean Joe Saunders of the 5.20 ERA? And the 9.00 ERA outside of Safeco?

Yeah, the same guy who pitched a complete game victory against the Orioles at safeco, who has done better this season than any of the Orioles russian roulette 5 starters.

Man you are really down on this team, huh?

Chen and Tillman have both done better than Saunders this season. But don't let reality get in your way, or the fact that one game is pretty much meaningless in determining the value of a player. If the Orioles had kept Saunders for the $6 million that he is making and he were putting up the performance he has, which mind you would be even worse because he wouldn't be playing in Safeco half the time, his numbers would be even worse and people wouldn't be able to get rid of him fast enough.

I am giving my honest opinion on the shortcomings of this team.

Yes. They have shortcomings. All teams do. The pitching is a problem, I will acknowledge that but when you start complaining about Manny Machado I have to question your logic.

Chen and Tillman are not Orioles #5 starters. Arrieta, britton, and garcia are. And the young kid who got smoked at home against the blue jays when we should have won on the hardy single were it not for a perfect throw. You are comparing apples and oranges. To say "yes, but these pitchers have done well" is useless when I wasn't in fact referring to those pitchers. Had you read the post, you would have understood that.

Ha. Yeah, let's re-sign him based on 1 game. Freddy Garcia pitched 8 shutout innings his last time out. Wanna give him a 2 year deal?

ERA+ for all SP involved:

Joe Saunders: 72

Jason Hammel: 78

Wei-Yin Chen: 140

Chris Tillman: 107

Freddy Garcia: 91

Miguel Gonzalez: 98

Joe would be at best a #5 SP, ONLY with Chen on the DL.

These "advanced statistics" are so useless. Bottom line, Saunders would be starting on the Orioles right now and providing stability. He has pitched better than britton, arrieta, and garcia. If ERA+ is what you are basing your outlook on, it is about as valuable as Dick Morris's election predictions.

Saunders has a 5.20 ERA (while pitching in an extreme pitcher's park). Garcia has a 4.70 ERA. That's half a run a game better. I know you don't like statistics, but maybe ERA is old school enough for you?

Also, it's funny that you equate Dick Morris' prediction to new school stats, since the new election polls and models had Obama winning easily. The old school pundit method is what caused Morris to look so ridiculous.

The "regular" statistics provided for you previously say something different? He's been worse than our options this year.

This isn't honest because its not true at all. But feel free to actually look at facts.
