The Twins traded Johan Santana to the Mets for Carlos Gonzalez

would have been looking like a great trade... but

they traded Carlos Gonzalez to the Brewers for JJ Hardy.

Cargo is an MVP candidate but JJ Hardy is a damm good SS

problem is they traded JJ Hardy to the O's for Brett Jacobsen and Jim Hoey.

Cargo is a free agent in 2017

Nice, I hadn't connected those dots.

Minor correction though - Carlos Gomez, not Gonzalez.

Yeah, they are both very good but Gomez is the MVP caliber player.

The poor Twins, that was some bad eventual return on a pitcher the caliber of Johan Santana

For more minor O's connections...in 2007, the Rays traded Jason Pridie (signed to a minor league deal with the O's for 2013) along with Delmon Young (O's minor league deal in 2014) and Brendan Harris (included in trade along with J.J. Hardy) to the Minnesota Twins for Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett, and Eduardo Morlan.

After his trade from the Mets, Gomez became the starting center fielder for the Twins in 2008, beating out prospects Denard Span and Jason Pridie. Batting first, with Alexi Casilla (picked up off waivers in 2012) batting second, manager Ron Gardenhire has referred to the speedy duo as "Loose Cannon One," and "Loose Cannon Two."

Gomez might be one of my least-liked players of all time. He is a hot head and a showboat. I hope he never wins anything.
