Can Miller be in Baltimore tonight?

We need him, O'day and Britton are not available tonite.

Send a private Jet Petey and get him to Camden... he could pay his first dividend tonite!!!

Little suprised that Red Sox were interested in EdRod... he'll have at least 2 or 3 minor leauge SP'ers ranked ahead of him

I suspect they see him as a bullpen guy, or a piece to throw in on a trade.

With their talent I see almost zero chance that he makes it to Boston as a starter.

Guess there is two threads - if we can extend Miller it's an excellent trade IMO. If not, meh - we lost a future ML reliever. This whole Sawx have killed today is way overblown IMO - unless everyone resigns with them after the season. Yea, I am sure there is this big conspiracy. What concerns me is the $$ they are dumping and will have available.

Plus, as long as we have young Yaz and he keeps moving forward we will always have a trade chip to pilfer. :)

Duquette probably woke up in a sweat reliving the nightmare that was Matusz vs Ibanez in 2012. Then he realized how much of a possibility for a similar scenario and got it done. It's a hard pill to swallow giving up EdRod but we may not have an opportunity like this again for awhile so go for it. It's a balance. Don't give up the future but also don't act like it's only the future in which you're fighting for.

I'm sure he'll be in uniform tonight. I once read about Joel Youngblood who was traded when he had a hit with one team during the afternoon. He got a hit with his new team that evening. I wager to say that Andrew

is already on the way to Baltimore or perhaps already there given how quick a flight it is.

EdRod is very likely never going to pitch in the majors. This is selling high. What has Delmonico done this season? Hader? DD hasn't given up anything of quality except Arrieta and that guy just was not working here. The NL is different, too. Smarj and Hammel aren't pitching nearly as well for Oakland.

Love this trade. IMO, this is the last time EdRod is ever really heard from again.

He's on the East Coast, he should be able to get to the park, dress and be ready by 9:00pm

Even if we can't extend him and E Rod somehow does turn into something I'm okay with this trade. You have to take some risks at the deadline. You aren't going to get quality players by trading your backup 2B at Delmarva.

I'm noticing this also. Specifically one with a 4.55 ERA at AA and hasn't done anything above Delmarva.

But he's got plus tools and is only 21, pitching in a league where most players are 3+ years older than him. Yeah, he's underwhelmed at AA. But the fact that he's pitching there at that age says something.

People have to get out of the mentality that we're rebuilding. We're here now, it's time to go for it. Now what the front office has to do is adjust their thinking as well and do more in free agency to make up for the prospect losses. Attendance is going up, revenue is going up, payroll has to go up.

Actually, I think the Orioles are better positioned throughout their organization than they have been in 30 years. The Cruz signing for the draft pick was worthwhile. Verdict is out of Jimenez, but they took the chance to win this year. Same with the Miller trade. Get to the ALCS and go from there. look out Tigers, the orioles can go toe-to-toe with you.

lol. You mean that same Tigers team that just acquired David Price?

Worth noting that Hader looks fantastic this season.

I have no problem being in "win now" mode. I just see no evidence of it.

    • Not for someone who has money riding on him winning the award.
    • Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?
    • The bullpen has much more depth this year than last year but it just feels like you don’t know who will be the guy each night.  Last year it was get to the 8th and you knew it was Cano and Bautista and lights out.  This year it doesn’t seem to be set roles especially with Kimberly strugggles and out as clasper for now possibly.  I also think Hyde gets a lot of grief about how he handles the bullpen but I think he has been great at looking at the game situation and with who he wants facing what guys.  Cano might come in the 6th one night then close the next, same with Webb or even Coulumbe.  I know a lot of it is analytics but as a group they make a plan and seem to stick with it instead of some managers that have 7 inning guy an 8th inning guy and closer and don’t deviate much.
    • On the replay you can see that Julio was lightly jogging after the ball-- either assuming the RF would get it, or assuming Hays wouldn't run. Good on Hays for taking advantage and turning it into a double.
    • I think in general people are more negative in life not just in sports and they need to blame someone or something.  In previous years we had a scapegoat in Peter and John.  Elias didn’t go out and make a trade it was because he didn’t have the money to go get anyone or the owner didn’t want to spend.  Now for the most part people seem to think new ownership will give the ok to spend more so now if we don’t do it it is on Elias, Sig, and Hyde for not getting best out of the players.  We dint make a big trade last year and most people just went with well John is cheap we don’t do what they want now it will fall on Elias more then last year in peoples eyes imo.
    • Mike Baumann.  An enigma wrapped in a conundrum.  Ride the wave!
    • The Yankees have been extremely healthy on offense as well.  If that somehow happens all year they will be right there with us but if I was a betting man I don’t think Judge, Stanton, Rizzo can stay healthy all year and they have very little depth behind those guys.  Besides Adley we have guys at every other position that can fill in if someone goes down.  There might be a drop some but I don’t think it would be catastrophic like losing Judge or Soto.
