Can D. Young upgrade 3b?

How do you know who has cleared waivers and who hasn't? Is there some list somewhere? Or are you just pulling stuff out of your service entrance as usual?

I know those two have. I also know when someone is claimed, it is announced. As it was on Escobar and Hamel. It's really not that hard to figure out if you bother to taken look at the facts.

I never thought I'd live to see an actual meeting of the pot and kettle. Surprised there aren't balloons or something.

Anyway, stuff gets leaked to the press. That's how it's known that Beltre cleared waivers.

There are a hand full of players who's names have been leaked, http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/08/players-who-have-cleared-revocable-waivers.html but plenty have cleared that we don't know about. The question is about whether we can get someone who is an upgrade over Davis, that is, someone who can play at least league average defense and hit over .200.

Did you know that Prado, Andrus and Drew have cleared waivers? How about that 3B of the Cubs Valbuena? Do you know if he has cleared or not? I bet there are a lot of players who have cleared, that you are clueless about.

Seems like such a low bar. The real problem, of course, is that once (if) they've addressed getting Davis away from 3B, Davis will still probably see the majority of ABs at 1B. If only Buck didn't like his guys quite so much...

Prado Andrus and Drew have all reportedly cleared waivers. If Valbuena was placed on waivers, he would have to clear all but three teams before the Orioles would have a shot.

Do you know if he has or if he was even placed on waivers? You seem to know everything.

He wouldn't if I were managing. I'd tell him frankly that he isn't helping the team and he has to work on shortening his swing, hitting the other way and up the middle, etc. and until I heard from Presley that he was making progress, he was benched. Flaherty couldn't hit worse than he is now and plays better defense. Hopefully I could find someone who hits better than Flaherty.

I don't know everything. But I do know that the folks who do this for a living are not as stupid as you suppose them to be.
Who said anything about the FO being stupid? Can you quote that for me? I am saying that there may be some players like perhaps Valbuena, who have cleared waivers and could give us better than .180 BA at 3B and plus defense. That's a low bar and maybe not someone the Yankees would even bother blocking. Are you saying the FO people aren't even looking? How would you know?

You assume you are smarter. I don't.

I also mean all the front offices. Not only ours. I would guess that we are looking at everyone that makes it through to us.

    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.
    • Was reading Wiggins write up on ESPN. He appears to be more of a home run threat than Koolaid. He had a pick 6 each of the last 2 years.
    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
