He is on a one-year contract. They are "banking" on him being worth $3.7 million or less than 1 WAR.

I disagree. I believe they are banking on him to be about as productive as last year. No player gets paid by the exact value of WAR, so they aren't banking on him being worth less than 1 win just by his salary, and I think you know that.

Probably. But within knowing how many pitches this year could potentially have classified as "wild pitches," your 5 number is kind of meaningless. Have there been 20 spikes like that Tillman pitch, and Joseph has stopped all but 5? It seems like so far this year our entire pitching staff has basically had zero command of anything. Is Joseph allowing wild pitches at a higher rate, or is the rate they are being thrown early on just increased a lot?
