Cortright Added to All-Star Game

Reliever becomes fourth Shorebird selected

HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- The South Atlantic League has announced that Shorebirds? reliever Garrett Cortright has been selected to the All-Star Game. Cortright joins Conor Bierfeldt, Jomar Reyes and Steve Wilkerson among the Shorebirds? representatives in Asheville on Tuesday, June 23rd.

Cortright has had a stellar season in the Shorebirds? bullpen, posting a 1.50 ERA in a team-high 21 appearances. The right-hander has taken over closer duties since the promotion of Donnie Hart, locking up four saves in four chances.

Opponents are batting just .211 against Cortright, and the reliever has allowed less than one baserunner per inning pitched. Over 30 innings in 2015, the 23-year-old has surrendered 23 hits, six walks and three hit-by-pitchs. Cortright is a groundball specialist with over three groundouts for every flyout recorded, one of the best ratios in the entire league.

A native of Hamburg, New York, Cortright attended Canisius College before the Orioles picked him in the 40th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. His rookie year, Cortright pitched mostly in the Gulf Coast League, recording a 1.11 ERA in 40.2 innings with the GCL Orioles. After brief stints with Aberdeen, Cortright joined the Shorebirds in 2014, making 19 relief appearances in the second half.

Cortright is the fourth Shorebird selected to the 2015 South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Delmarva has had at least four players chosen to represent the Northern Division in back-to-back years. The midseason showcase will take place at McCormick Field in Asheville, North Carolina on Tuesday, June 23rd.
